New guy working today and somehow I got stuck in the back of the rig whenever we go out for anything



I jumped in the back and didn't realize till halfway to breakfast this morning what I just did


What the heck was I thinking

Actually good for third rider to be up front to learn operations, but should be in patient compartment during all transports.
 
lol, in texas, the back is where you wanna be in the summer! Pt compartment is VERY chilly! :) I love riding in the captains chair (of course i flip it around so i can see out of the front!

That's how it's done here, helps the 3rd learn ops and get familiar with the area being able to see where we're going and use the map books to get there.

So your airway seat rotates? How do that work?
 
Those are only in the type 3 ambulances, Type 2 is stuck facing patient
 
I took a good hour nap in the back while he showed him around town

yeah, I get a bit motion sick by the end of shift I have to ride in back the whole time. Otherwise, not too bad...

One reason why I like type II's, most items immediately needed are within arms reach. No need to risk my safety by unbuckling my seat belt and moving around.

I always find it humerous when people dog the type II's. They have more room than we do in the helicopter, and I fly on a relatively larger airfame. I have no problems getting the job done. Just as a medic wouldn't in a type II. Look at the rest of the world, it is done and done efficiently. Maybe its because they just don't look cool enough??????????

I love shifts where we switch trucks. I go from a van thinking "Man, I feel like a giant!" to a Full-sized mod thinking "Why am I so small?"
 
There is a lever on the side of them and the can change position.

exactly, little pull out lever pulls the pin out and you can rotate the captain's chair forward and backwards....

now then we can't go spinning in circles or anything! its just a lock joint between front and back :)
 
I have a braun rig where i can go spinning in circles.....

One day we picked up a bariatric pt, who was almost 7' tall. He literally wouldn't fit into the van. We stole our full mod (per on duty supervisor) from the crew posting right by us and got to keep it the rest of the day :] I was patient person all day that day :]]
 
think vans are small: we had two of the sprinter ambulances like they have in europe. the bench seat was about twice the width of a backboard on its side (we stored one under it). there was 6" between the seat and the cot.

did get good mileage; did a 650 mile transport and got 19.8 MPG for the average.
