Volunteer App Process

One of the local amublance Co's I was interested in requires you to pay for the application process as well as pay for orientation. They also run a credit check on you. (my credit is less than perfect!) Does this seem odd? None of the other ones in my area require such a thing. The do require a criminal background check, which I have completed and already paid for.

Payment with an application to a volunteer department is quite common. Most departments use the money to cover the cost of the background checks.
Never heard of paying for the orientation training though.

Sounds fishy. My Dept in Northern PA I had to pay a $12 app fee which covered background check. Nothing else! I also got a dept shirt and they paid for the uniform for me which is well over $100
