Hey all,
I did a quick search and could not find an answer to my question.
I am having a hard time counting respirations on patients. Do you have any tips/tricks on how to count them without the patient knowing that you're counting their breaths?
Thanks in advance for any replies,
Todd

Ventilations*

Put your hand on their wrist like you're taking their pulse, then rest it on their chest. Count when your hand moves from their chest rise.

You don't really need to count. You can tell if they're normal without counting "1..2...3...4...5..6..7.."

I put my hand on their shoulder and don't ask them a question. I'll mess with a stethoscope and get ready to do lung sounds or something along those lines so they don't think I'm ignoring them. You don't have to stare at your watch the whole time glance at it then look back in a couple seconds. If you stare they can catch on to what's going on.

Respiratory rate sucks, I'm still not as good at it as I would like to be.

I'm gonna steal this idea for my next patient

Put 'em on an end tidal nasal cannula and read the resp rate on the monitor. ;)
