Recertification in NYS? Kinda lost - please help

Hey To All My Fellow NYS EMT's,
I'm a current NYS EMT and my license is up January 2019. I'm kinda wondering about to how go about certifying? The NYS DOH website didn't offer much help so I'm turning to my fellow EMT's on here. Does anyone know what the deal is with NYS re-certification? Do I just take a refresher class or do I also have to take the written and practical exams? Or is it better just to get NREMT certified and forget about NYS?

The refresher class requires a written and practical.

If you do a CME based refresher through your agency, I don't believe you have to take the NYS exams.
