Hey all. So I came from the 911 world and have recently accepted a full-time position primarily in IFT. Currently, when taking patients from hospital to hospital on multiple pumps, we have to get creative with concurrent administration of medications to keep the number of pumps manageable. I have looked for commercial solutions to this but, finding none, I figured it was time to seek out expert advice from the field. How do you manage multiple Plum Pumps on a Stryker cot (like 4-5 pumps)? Thanks for any input and advice you all have.

Lots of carabiners. I put each medication bag on the same carabiner that the associating pump is on. Then I will usually attach those carabiners (3-4 pumps/medications) to a single carabiner. Then that single carabiner can get hooked on the stretcher or laid at the patients feet/legs. I don’t have an IV pole. Spend the extra time at the sending facility to tag your pump with the medication name and also the distal tip of your IV line with the medication name. In the situations I have multiple medications running through the same IV site I will create a little manifold with 3-way stopcocks.

I do a variation of the above. We have both a mount and a pouch for our pumps. I can lay them on the patient, use carabiners to hang them from the cot, or I can use a mount and clamp it to a cot mounted IV pole. However, I also work to detangle the mess as much as possible and LABEL everything so I know what med is going into what pump and is infusing into which lines...
