Public vs. Private

Hello, I'm currently coming to the end of my EMT-B class and starting to look at possible job opportunities and I'm a little confused about the differences and the pros/cons of a private/public ambulance company, could anyone please explain this to me?

Public services are 3rd services similar to a fire department, except only providing EMS so using tax dollars, but not owned by someone trying to make a profit. They tend to have nice equipment, decent wages, and treat employees well.

Privates can be either for profit/not for profit but most are for profit. For profit operations tend to have older equipment, and treat employees with less love, though thats not always the case.

Also privates often run only IFTs with a few 911 contracts while public/3rd services tend to be primarily 911 providers.
