Los Angeles County Department of Health - Housing for Health is seeking paramedics to join our COVID Response Teams. The work entails field deployments to the shelters, streets, and riverbeds of Los Angeles. The work includes testing, vaccination and providing street medicine care. You will be serving our county's most vulnerable population during the COVID pandemic. Must have current CA state licensure and accreditation to work in LA County. So, I get the shelters and streets, what's the deal with the rivers? Help a non-LA person out cuz up here deploying to a riverbed means drysuits and body recovery.

LA River is fairly unique, it was paved over in the 30s, so it's more a giant storm channel nowadays. Thanks to the drought, it's generally far more dry than wet (though the Swift Water Rescue Teams are kept busy when the rains do come).

Plus there are tons of bridges for roads and train tracks crossing it, so without much other traffic, a lot of homeless set up encampments in there, particularly under the bridges where they're generally unbothered by people or cops or whatever
