Hey everyone,

Just wanted to let everyone know that NEMSES has put out the latest draft for EMS educational standards that will the new national standard. It's available for public comment.

Review the draft at http://www.nemses.org/draftstandards.html

It's really easy to navigate the different sections. Each section has a "Comment on this competency" link that opens an email window to the committee members working on that topic.

Some of these really need comments, because the simplicity is ridiculous like:
http://www.nemsed.org/draft_standards/detail.cfm?uid=42
EMTs only need cardiovascular fundamental (not complex) depth in CP, arrest, ACS, Aortic anuerysm/disection, thromboembolism, heart failure, hypertensive emergencies. Compare to the topics a paramedic needs to know in depth.

You can go section by section making comments. It's easy as heck to give your input.
Here's your chance to contribute to the field . . . If you don't at least try here, then forever hold your peace b/c it can't get easier than this.

Update: Clarification, Direct Emails, Less Cluttered Post, and Thread Bump/Reminder

http://www.nemsed.org/draft_standards/pdf/education_standards_document.pdf is the most up-to-date version.
Use that. Good stuff starts p13 and really easy to scroll through. FAST. Almost fun.

All comments for any section go:
To: db@nemsed.org; dc@nemsed.org; jf@nemsed.org; kn@nemsed.org; lk@nemsed.org
Subject line: Comments on ______ (Include specific subsection from left column)

I'm really trying to promote this, because once the final version is written, who knows how long it'll stay. It's our field and our chance to push for higher educational standards (remember that's what will lead to higher respect, wages, and scope of practice).
