I was wondering if anyone had any pointers with the interview process. Were the questions on the test similar to NREMT? What to study, etc....
Thanks!

I know that they do a written test, skills test.interview and a fit test basically seeing if your able to lift people safely and effectively. Written test will probably most likely be nremt material, maybe some orange County protocols too.

Do a lot of research regarding problems that medical team encounters. See if they are fit for the job what are the protocols and their readiness encase of emergencies

I would believe your EMS office has copies of your county's protocols. Purchase one and study it. It won't be much different from what you've learned during your EMT classes, though it's better to refresh the procedures.

Remember, you can only use pulse ox if the fire medic says it's ok, watches you use it, and holds your hand.

If you violate this protocol you could be sent off to the EMT Gulag.

gurney protocol most important. having a clean made gurney is half your worries. and comfortable boots to stand in :p

I don't mean any offense to the crews who work 911, but as a new EMT looking for a gig it would benefit you to go outside LA/OC if you really want to gain experience in the field.

Sure you will run with fire crews that will allow you to be more hands on, but the majority of what you do is just gurney pushing.

Full arrest in the park. Even the cop is holding the NS bag. Care is just standing around waiting to move the patient.

Head out to Riverside, San Bernardino, or Kern and get some 1-1 experience with a medic.

Unashamed plug for Glendale AO, IMO the single best single role EMT job in the county, paid more than some private medics and our FFPMs expect us to be fully involved hands on, not just standing by the gurney, we're doing pretty much all the splinting and bandaging on traumas, we're fully involved on chest compressions and BVM's on arrests, medics are starting a line to give fluids and I have my hands free, guess who's striping the bag? It sure ain't the cop!

(yeah I know, kinda sad that the best EMT job in the county is a lot of being able to actually do EMT stuff beyond gurney pushing, though part of me can empathize when the medics, especially in the busier areas, almost always get a completely different ambulance crew for every call, probably never seeing the same guys more than once or twice and only for the few minutes while on scene together)
