Three killed in Pasadena in freeway wreck involving commuter train
PASADENA, Calif. (AP) - A sport utility vehicle rolled over on a freeway Thursday, killing three people and injuring four others, including a boy who was hurled onto adjacent commuter rail tracks where a train severed one of his legs, authorities said.

FYI, this happened less than 5 miles from my house and within a few blocks of where I grew up. I don't think we responded (I was on vacation and haven't talked to anyone at the station yet), but I know several departments in our system besides Pasadena FD did.
Apparently, only the driver and front-seat passenger were wearing seatbelts. The other five passengers were not.
The train tracks in question run down the middle of the freeway. They used to be used by Southern Pacific and Amtrak, but were converted to a "light rail" system this past year.
