Ex-EMT Admits to Manslaughter

Ex-EMT guilty of giving friend deadly dosage of methadone

In plea deal, he admits to manslaughter, drug distribution in Mt. Olive

By Peggy Wright, Daily Record

A onetime emergency medical technician pleaded guilty on Thursday to manslaughter, admitting that he gave methadone pills to a friend who later overdosed and died in Mount Olive.

Christopher Sean Beardsley, 27, pleaded guilty in Superior Court, Morristown, to distribution of methadone and the manslaughter of Roxbury resident Brian Casper, 26. Through his plea, Beardsley will avoid a trial on a more serious charge known as strict liability for a drug-induced death, which carries punishment of up to 20 years in prison.

Beardsley's plea deal calls for him to be sentenced on Nov. 19 to three years in prison, with 85 percent of the term to be served before he is eligible for parole. Upon release, he would be placed on parole for three years, Morris County Assistant Prosecutor Marcy McMann said.
