Nice Chief. Great Training Officer.

Decent system. Shytty pay....but that is in line with EMS only systems in the panhandle. But it is a nice area. Got the Gulf anytime you want, have beaches, have rural, have some small city...mix of it all.

How does $17/hour add up to $41k a year? Am I missing something? How many hours a week do you guys usually work in Florida?

That works out to around 48 hours/week; it's pretty similar to what I made in Oklahoma in the mid-decade.

If you're interested in Texas, the average Houston medic is in the mid-50s with base schedules.

Yep....anywhere from 9-11 shifts a month. Plenty of opportunity to kill yourself at 2nd or 3rd jobs or work the OT like every other medic...

I'm still unsure how this works. So you work 72 hours one week and 48 the other week, making it a 120 hour pay period instead of 80 hour pay period? Is the 40 hours overtime? :-\

Familiarize yourself with FSLA and how it applies to EMS/Fire....depending on type of organization your work week may actually be 52 hours before OT kicks in.

No you do not get OT for every hour after 40 with most agencies.

Well that’s pretty discouraging. Working those hours in the woods of PA I would make a ton more money.

80 x $24.75 = $1980
40 x 37.12 = $1485
$1980 + $1485 = $3465

$3465 every two weeks working the same hours.

$3465 x 26 = $90,090/year

How do you guys in Florida live on 40-50k working all those hours?!? Am I missing something here?

Average Medic salary 40-60K then add in OT shifts or 2nd job.

Also your math is wrong, again look up FSLA and its exclusions. If you are making 90K a year in PA, stay there.

No State Tax.
Cheaper cost of living in most places within FL outside of the "prime spots".

Well I don’t make 90k, but I also don’t work 120 hours every two weeks at one job. We run 3 12s a week with 4 days off making $46k/year.

Ultimately looking to move for better weather, PA weather is atrocious. Just need to familiarize myself with Florida ways to make the transition more seamless. Currently in the process of doing reciprocity.

Any tips and suggestions? Aside from familiarizing with the FLSA.
