First, This is not about weed or beating drug tests.

I’m enrolled to start the emt basic program next semester and I noticed that in the class after this one they require a drug test. I don’t do any recreational or illegal drugs but am on prescription drugs. Will this keep me out of the program? They are meds that will result in phone calls etc.

Beyond that, once I clear it up with the the lab, does the lab usually just report a clean test or specific the meds.

Bring/show Rx to test facility. Problem solved.

You’d be hard pressed to swing a dead cat in the ready room of an EMS service and not hit someone who’ll pop for adderall, benzos, increasingly marijuana. As long as you have a prescription and aren’t abusing the medication, you’re fine.

Good to know. Now I just found out I have to lose the beard and basically have to wear the long sleeve uniform all the times because of visible tats

Pretty much this. As for the visible tats, many programs have a "no visible tattoos" policy so they can maintain a certain "visual" standard. They have a policy that basically calls for a uniform appearance of their students. It's likely not that they don't like tats, it's just so they can maintain a uniform appearance. This way they don't have to worry about whether or not any of their hospital or EMS experience placement sites won't take a student because of an appearance issue. Once you're done with school and you eventually find a job, follow your employer's policy regarding visible tats.

When I was in EMT, Paramedic, and RN school, all those schools had a "No Visible Tattoo" policy. I don't have any so it's not an issue for me. That being said, none of the "medical" companies I worked for over the years cared much about tattoos, as long as they weren't actually blatantly offensive. In other words, your visible tats couldn't show porn, swear words, etc.

I have never had to bring a prescription to a drug test; if they ask then you produce it.

I have had many many random drug tests in the last 20 years; I have taken them while on Opiod's for different injuries, and I have never been asked about them.
