If 20k is their sign on bonus, I am curious how super low their hourly rates are for their employees.

Brand new medic is $21.50 an hour. Top step is $31.50

New contract negotiations next year.

Hiring bonuses make your agency look desperate.
They really do. Our company is doing the same...because, well, we are in fact, desperate.

@Addrobo I’m not knocking your ops. In fact, it’s probably the best AMR Ops I can think of, hence the tag. But, c’mon it’s still privatized EMS, like my company. There are goods and bads to be had.

I’m just sayin’, don’t sell the OP from the other thread short...no smoke and mirrors.

Everyone is getting desperate. Which I, as an employee, like.

If I was still in LA Co and got my medic there, I'd probably apply there vs staying near min wage to be doing monitor transports/being treated like BLS by Fire anyway...

Santa Barbara is honestly one of the coolest places to work as a private medic for sure!

fire is mostly bls and will carry your bags lift your patients and are super humble.

I can see no argument that would sway me towards california. None at all. Even if the wage was double, heck triple, it wouldn't outweigh the politics, gun laws, or the very basic fact that california is well on it's way to having no middle class to speak of. I'm sure there are enclaves of sane, normal people who just go to work, raise their families and play adult league softball twice a week; but too much of the state is nucking futs.

20 grand isnt going to go far, over three years, when you factor in the cost of living, and the wage isn't impressive nationally. My private is paying 20/hr for a day one medic whose never seen an ambulance before, and the way things are going, that medic would have a city rescue shift in six months or less.
