    Volunteer question?

Those MD's are hanging out in Darfur are doing it part time?... wow. I doubt you clicked on the link, so why not do it now? And I see how you avoided the whole Red Cross thing. Probably because there are ARC members here who would happily educate you about their amateurism...

    Volunteer question?

No, gosh, guess I'm just not very smart. But, how's this for an analogy: http://www.redcross.org/ http://doctorswithoutborders.org/ How about if you contact someone from either of these organizations (there are others) and ask about their full time amateurs pretending to be...

    Volunteer question?

I don't think volunteers are suckers... nor do they bring down or negatively impact EMS by performing community service. I There are thousands of MD's volunteering, yet I don't see health costs declining as a result. ... and yeah, I realize your were ranting. :)

What % of Calls Require ALS?

Oh, I think it's a lot more about services covering their butts. If you deny transport, even for good reason, and that person has any kind of subsequent problems... well, you know what would happen.

What % of Calls Require ALS?

Doesn't that depend on the ambulance company/FD you work for, or perhaps local EMS protocols? What if the patient specifically requests transport? Can you say "No", or only advise?

What % of Calls Require ALS?

Yeah, that's EXACTLY what was asked and inferred. It's a simple question... or should be.

What % of Calls Require ALS?

It might depend on the area. In my county, BLS does not include 12 lead. However, EMT-Techs in the ER routinely do the 12 lead. Of course, they don't discuss the interpretation with the patient. ;)

    NR test...

You can get the results online. Login to NREMT under your account, you should find it. If you took the test early in the day, you may find out the same day. I had a 1 PM start time, and the results were updated first thing the next day. I'm not sure how it works on Fridays. You may have...

    NR test...

I got cut off around 70 as well. This bugged the crap out of me, and it was a long 24 hours before I got the result: Passed. But before I got word, I did a bit of research. The exam, as you know, looks for a certain level of proficiency at all levels. It starts with an "average" level type...

What % of Calls Require ALS?

I had heard that too. 80% of all 911 calls requiring EMS are/were BLS. From my very unscientific times listening to scanners, that -seems- about right. At least for this area. Lots of "I've fallen and I can't get back up" etc. type calls.

What % of Calls Require ALS?

Yes, that is what I was asking. After all is said and done... was it a call that -required- ALS skills?
  12. E

What % of Calls Require ALS?

Without getting into ALS vs. BLS controversies, what has been the real life observations regarding percentage of calls requiring ALS? I know it's a bit broad, as no doubt there are days when it might be 100%, but taken on average, what is the estimate? Or has there ever been a national study...

Are you sure you don't mean a current driving record printout? (yes, another DMV visit....)

California Driver's Handbook - not sure if i got the right drivers handbook..

My bad, but they may send you to a lab. But you will need to verify all your immunizations, TB are up to date. And let's not forget Live Scan. Boy, they make you go through hoops. I should tally up all the various fees that I've shelled out the past few months. Test fees, DMV fees...

California Driver's Handbook - not sure if i got the right drivers handbook..

You need a Medical Examiners Card. The DMV has the form online to take to you Doctor. He/she examines you if you haven't had a recent physical, and gives you blood tests, etc. When passed, they give you the card. Most Physicians should be familiar with the process, as it's required for all...

    Interviewing With AMR - Suggestions?

Many thanks to all who replied. I apologize if this topic has been addressed before here, maybe even beaten to death. But as we have seen, each situation is a bit different. BarbaraWalters - thanks for the encouragement. I am not stuck on doing a 911 service, but that's my preference atm...

California Driver's Handbook - not sure if i got the right drivers handbook..

Yep, only way is to go in person and stand in line. Cost is $5. I did an online appointment. I got the handbook, spent about 15 minutes reading it then took the test. You get three cracks at it. As I recall, there were 30 questions and you had to get at least 26 right to pass. The...

    Interviewing With AMR - Suggestions?

Greetings all, first time poster, and brand new EMT-B. :) I am seeking a job with a private company that has primary 911 responder service. I live the the San Francisco Bay Area, and many of the local counties contract their 911 EMS to private companies (ie non Fire Department). Mostly...
