    EMT School

I live out in California and I was wondering, when EMS Agencies send you to a 4-day Academy, what do they usually do? Is it paramilitary like a police academy? We have to wear white polos, blue or black slacks, and black shoes for the 4 days. Do they usually have homework at night?

Hey everyone! I have an interview with an ambulance agency next week. What's the best way for a woman to wear her hair? My hair has black on top & red/brown underneath (that's not crazy looking). I'm already wearing a black suit jacket w/matching pants and a white blouse underneath. How...

    Great News!

There were a number of individuals who answered my questions on this board 'bout my final or even just getting all my ducks in a line. I took my national registry! Here are my results: I had 78 minutes to spare and the computer stopped the exam. I answered between 60-70 questions. I'm...

Pupil Size and Diabetics - Why is it important?

Okay, so yes, I'm reviewing my final. I don't know how looking at the pupils of a diabetic patient will give you important information 'bout the patient except that if they're PERRL, then there's no head trauma. Appreciate any and all help! :)

    Assessing Seizure Patient w/no priors?

So I had a question on my final. I have absolutely no clue why I got it wrong, except, I got it wrong! *laughs* Here's the skinny on the question: "38 y/o male has seizure @ work, no prior medical history. Slow to respond to questions & complaining of a headache. Which of the following...

Focused history/physical exam vs. Rapid Trauma??

Here's my question. When getting a scenario, what are good "identifiers" or ways to determine when to use either the Focused History/Physical Exam vs. Rapid Trauma Assessment. Obviously if they've been hit by a car, being inside the vehicle, or its a vehicle vs. pedestrian, then yes, I'd...

Places to Search for EMT Employment

Does anyone know what are good websites to look for Ambulance Agencies hiring for EMT-B's? Do you have to know the Ambulance Agencies in that area before you can look? I'm new at this, so any and all help is appreciated. Oh, and if there's a past posting, I do apologize. Just direct me...

    Sling & Swathe bandage question...

I know this might sound a little crazy...however, there aren't enough supplies to go around in our EMT class to practice our skills. One of our RANDOM SKILLS is to do the "Sling and Swathe." No, we're not talkin' about the blue sling that you see in hospitals that you put on patients. We're...

    ET Tubing question...

This is for all of you EMT-I and EMT-P who actually can perform this skill (It sucks that us EMT-B have to read about it, but here in CA, its out of our scope to perform) It says that you have to lubricate the stylet before inserting it into the ET Tube prior to inserting the ET tube going...

    Studying techniques anyone??

So here's my question for all of you who have had to study for the NRE or just a big final in your EMT class. My final is December 15th (the written). I have to read like two more chapters. Pretty much we have 30 some odd chapters. I want to say 33 chapters. What is the best way to...

    Labor & Delivery Question

I don't know where to put this question, so I'm putting it here. I’m in an EMT class and we’ve now reach Obstetrics. Yes, I’m giving my full attention to this chapter since it seems not many do as well on the NRE. Here’s my question: Let’s say you’re an EMT out in the field and that...

Relieve my anxiety with the NREMT...

In my EMT class, we get the written quizzes and we can start whereever we like. Beginning, last question. In reality - the NREMT, it is a computer based test. You get one question, that's it. You get to sit there, read it, and answer it. No going back once you submit your answer. I get...
