    8 dead in taconic crash

http://abcnews.go.com/GMA/story?id=8249454&page=1 Diane Schuler was drunk and high when she drove straight into oncoming traffic on a New York highway, swerving for nearly two miles to narrowly avoid crashes until she slammed head on into an SUV and took eight lives, including four children...

Medics leave it to the Basics

Just a general question to clear up my mild confusion.... If you're on an all Basic truck and call for a Medics assistance, when they arrive is it ok for them to decide that the Basic should be able to handle the call without the Medic and leave? I have not actually seen this happen or...

    H2O2? Oy vey...

I use H2O2 to take blood stains out of my clothes. Works great. it bubbles and fizzes and bleaches it right out. Now why would I want to put that in my stomach? Hmmmm...Maybe you should show them some experiments like "watch what this does to a blood stain." or "see what happens when I mix H202...

    @NIMS 100 and 700

It was required by my employer. It was long, but not hard to pass. If I remember correctly you're gonna wanna make sure that you have the right plug-ins for your browser, like Media Player and/or Adobe flash player.

    Opinions please

Excellent job! my first thought on the EMS design though is that the Star of Life is almost completely hidden making in seem really unimportant. I think it would be a very important part of EMS/PARAMEDIC recognition and, thus should be more prominent.

    ambulance follows drunk

Depending on the state you live in if you witness a crime in action you can make a "citizens arrest", however this can fall into all kinds of gray and dangerous area. If the police instructed you to do so - obviously it is a personal choice that both crew members make weighing the risks to...

Looking for work in Mass but having a hardtime.

I live in the Worcester area and actually drive an hour to work in the Northampton/Springfield area. It's pretty hard to find openings around here, but there is also a lot of turnover. Best thing to do is keep submitting applications. Don't just put one in somewhere and think "ya if they get an...

Now I will introduce you all to my lovely girlfriend - The Veterinarian in training... Hey all. Its good to hear that our fellow Emergency Staff in the human world are caring about pets. I've been an Emergency and Critical Care vet nurse for 6 years now, so pet CPR is kind of a specialty of...

First...WOW. Before I start, Yes I watched the entire video. I was also a police officer before joining EMS. Depending on what perspective you take...just about everyone that has jumped on this thread is right...just about. I'm in the "Officer should be retrained in the importance of...

Is it normal to be treated bad by your FTO?

Hi!! Welcome. I'm a woman too and find it funny that even when I point that out in my post everyone still refers to me as a man. Oh well. When I started out our company doesn't actually have official FTOs so I ended up with Joe Shmoe that has just been around for a while. Some of them even...

Are you issued a portable radio.

Our company's communication is crap. Most of the time you can't hear the dispatcher on the mobile radio on the ambulance and we usually can't contact them via the mobile radio either, so each ambulance crew is issued the Nextels. It's taken a lot of getting use to. I worked as a Park Ranger for...

    TV driving me nuts

HAHAHAHAHA! I always find it laughable when you see a tv patient go into cardiac arrest in an ER and there is a shot of the flat line with tones on the ECG monitor, but there are no leads on the patient. HA, or when they spend a bunch of time working on a patient but they're not intubated...

    TV driving me nuts

Like most people, before I became educated a bit in first-aid I fell for or just didn't notice all the errors and bad practices or just flat out "that would never happen" stuff that is shown on tv. That being said, I just wanted to rant and vent for a minute that one of my favorite shows (at...

    Cutting Clothes

My girlfriend is a vet student and we often get into great medical discussions. Her contribution is this: "My patients don't wear clothes (unless they are poodles) and don't fake anything. If they hurt, they hurt, and if they are nearly dead, they are nearly dead, period. They can, of course...
