Save a ton of money beforehand... Get roommates... find a cheaper place to live... Apply for scholarships/financial aid... still work per diem or part time while in medic school...
There are ways to reduce the total cost. I would recommend going for a community college program if possible since...
Reviving this thread since I'm having trouble finding a definitive answer this one question. I need to renew my DMV Ambulance Driver Certificate for the first time. Do I need to have another Live Scan done?
Over at Lynch Ambulance in Orange County, medics can do all of that. Full cardiac monitoring, pacing, pumps, ACLS drugs, CPAP, etc. All within the Orange County IFT-ALS scope.
California might be hard. County scope of practice overrides state here. So, what I can do in Orange County vs. Los Angeles County vs. Kern County are different (and there's like 50 counties in all of CA).
Ahh, that makes sense. Yeah, we get a status request after 20 minutes and mark tx of care time on our epcr. Thanks for the info. I thought our company just eats the cost of us having to the hold wall.
But... I don't think said person has a choice whether to "request" us to wait. It's not like we can just dump the patient in the hallway? But if so, I didn't realize this was a thing. Interesting, thanks.
The thought of getting a call before clearing is insane. In LA, you don't know how long it's going to be once you step foot in the ER. If you have an ALS patient, with any luck, you get a bed right away. With a BLS patient, good luck. You could be stuck for hours. Also, the ambulance company...
@deadhead, would you accept weekend-only (Friday-Sunday) availability? I would be willing to work 9s/12s/24s/48s over the weekend, but am currently attending school full-time Monday through Thursday. I currently have a year and a half of EMT experience.
Okay, found out how companies will get around it. First, its only in unincorporated areas of LACo, not incorporated cities. Second, they only have to pay you $12/hr if you work more than two hours/wk in that area. So if you run one quick call and get out, they dont have to pay you more. Third...
Are these wages for LA city only? My company picks up in some cities in LA county but were based in OC. I havent heard anything about a possible raise.
One time showed up to the hospital to transport an elderly female home. So I walk in, start getting report from the RN and realize something's not right. Pt is an elderly female (~70s), completely A&Ox4, can walk and talk, doesn't require a gurney or BLS monitoring. So, I hand her a physician...
Honestly, I went into EMT class with just my AHA BLS cert and no other knowledge and passed just fine. If anything, study up on anatomy/physiology, but you will learn what you need to know in class.
Interesting, I'll have to ask around. There are still some individuals at our company that have been around since that time. The closest we get to 911 nowadays is Orange City Fire & Huntington Beach Fire mutual aid calls that happen once in a blue moon. A lot of our ALS "ER" calls (SNF/Board &...
I work for a company that wanted to bid for it, but from what I heard, the city of Garden Grove required any company that wanted to bid to have at least 5 years of 911 experience so we couldn't. I'm surprised too Emergency or Doctor's didn't bid for it.
