    4th of July

Working the NASCAR races 3,4, and 5 July. For a few days Daytona International Speedway becomes the largest city in central Florida... now add heat, EtOH, fireworks and Darwin and it tends to be a busy couple of days!

    Ccemtp

Rinker does a bunch of the certificate programs for UF and already had emergency management stuff so that's where they stuck it. IT's still a UF course taught by UF faculty.

EMT openings in Volusia County (central Florida)

intermittent is an employment category not a certification level. EMT can get hired full time or intermittent, medics just intermittent. As an intermittent you pick up shifts casually to fill in and are limited to 1560 hours in a year. Once hired as intermittent you can get advanced to part...

    Paramedic program in Florida

The state college system will be very expensive if you are forced to pay out of state tuition. One of the privates may be cheaper however your schedule may become overloaded quickly between school, clinical time, and work at the mouse. Good luck!

Definition of "Approved by Medical Director"

You MUST be employed by a Volusia county agency as an EMT ( or be a "on the books" volunteer) to be considered a "cleared" EMT. So the short answer is you are not cleared by the VCEMS medical director.

    New EMT in Florida

There is nothing in the Daytona area for you. Volusia County just did an EMT hiring. There are privates in the Orlando area that will hire new EMT's but not sure if they will work around your medic school. Try Rural Metro or American. Pickings are slim as most EMS in this area is either fire...

    Random Thought(FL Medic study guide)

The FL state test is easy as pie. There is a crib sheet floating around that gives some questions and answers or at least the perceived answers in the "my best recollection of that question is". If you are a practicing medic you should be able to pass it cold...if you actually study a little bit...

    Florida ems

Most EMS in FL is fire based. There are exceptions which include Lake County, Lee County, Volusia County, Sunstar, and Rural Metro ( who has parts of Orlando metro area and Sumter County) The market here is saturated as the medic mills pump out litters of providers every semester. With that...

Veteran Medic UK entering US Field

In Volusia County your options are numbered. Apply to the county but it is a long and winding road. I would apply to the Orlando companies American and Rural Metro. They are private companies but Rural Metro does have some 911 contracts. They are almost always hiring. There is Coastal in Brevard...

    New Drug

TXA is cheap, effective, and has been used in the transplant community for years. The studies have been favorable, as mentioned above listen to the EMCRIT podcast on it.

Fresh Paramedic, looking for jobs in Florida

You're entering an overly saturated market. If you do not have a fire cert you have limited options. Liberty Ambulance in Jacksonville, American in Orlando, Rural Metro in Orlando and Sumter County, Lake and Volusia EMS ( third service EMS non-fire), and Coastal in Brevard. Lake and Volusia will...

    43 Y/O female seizure

I'd concur with line O2 etc, but I'd keep a close watch on that HR. 175 is at the top end of the max for her age and I'd be suspicious of that. Sinus tach is not unusual after a seizure BUT 175 is pretty fast. Id want to see the LOC coming up and the HR going down. She would not be a BLS patient...

    EMT courses in FL

If you're going to go private I would try Orlando Medical Institute, they have a good reputation and some great instructors. Also look at Valencia and Seminole State. Good luck.

    Oxygen and psychogenic shock

You have to remember when the EMT program was first envisioned there were no "trauma surgeons" or Emergency Medicine doctors. The ED's tended to be staffed by IM docs (if they were lucky)or in smaller ERs GP's or whomever they could get including residents moonlighting. ( I have transported out...

Going Beyond The Minimum: Paramedic or Ambulance Driver?

Nitrox is not used for pain management, I think you may be thinking of nitronox which is the trade name for the 50/50 mix of N2O (Nitrous oxide) and O2.
