    Page turner time

Im a no guy on this one. Why should we support research for smoking related diseases when the cure is to not smoke?

    Page turner time

How do we as EMS providers feel about increasing tax on cigarettes (prop 29 in cali) in order to fund research on smoking?

    ACLS Recert

I just started working for an agency that requires ACLS. I have my ACLS, but it expires next month. I wanted to get a jump on it and get it done early. My question is this, is there a skills test required for a recert on acls? Or can you obtain the cert from an online course without skills...

    Blood Pressure on the Road

Get a good stethoscope, that will help isolate the noise, and amplify sounds to make everything louder.from the bell. It makes a huge difference.

    Subarachnoid bleed and hyperventilation

Again, I agree entirely. I don't know what the argument is about lol. EMS, at least in my area is really pushing education. Most new medics I know are getting as degrees.

    Subarachnoid bleed and hyperventilation

Agreed 100%. So why do labs on those goners? Waste of time.

    Subarachnoid bleed and hyperventilation

I am not.in any way addressing cct. Most medics don't run cct. Most run 911. And coming from a medic who has worked cct (2 years actually) never once have I been on a unit with the capability to do any sort of lab. and how many hands are in the back of your cct units? When you have a ripping...

    Subarachnoid bleed and hyperventilation

So are you suggesting that we draw labs on every call when you know full well the hospital will redo them and disregard ours? And those time sensitive calls... The ones where labs matter, are the ones where it would be impractical to draw. And tell me again how said labs would change our...

    Subarachnoid bleed and hyperventilation

I likes new toys:P labs would be great as a diagnostic tool. As are blood pressures, rhythms, 12 leads and the 50 other things we have to worry about while upside down under a car. If we spent another 10 minutes obtaining blood and doing labs, we may be doing CPR instead of just using cpap...

    Subarachnoid bleed and hyperventilation

What is the purpose of labs in the field, I get their importance in the hospital setting and their use as a diagnostic tool. But unless you have an extremely long transport time or are on an ift (in which case labs most likely have been done already), why waste the time to do them? In the event...

    Paramedic physical ability

I used to be on the swim team at my college. In the gym 4-5 hours 5 days a week. When i became involved in ems, I was in really good shape. after 4 years of eating fast food, sitting in a lazy boy, and pounding monsters, I can tell you that the job becomes exponentially easier when you are in...

    New emt-p 2 quick questions

On your cheat sheet, I would also keep basic med math calculations, door codes to hospitals always helped, PEDS drug dosages, and maybe some abbreviations for med terms. I have one in my clip board too, and the majority of what is on it is anything I had trouble with in school. As for your...

    Antiarrhythmic confusion.........

Now what about lido/amiodarone in conjunction with a vasopressor? Would you consider that to be counter-intuitive?

Does anyone know why Florida doesn't have EMT-I?

Ah... true. But who is to decide before they arrive on scene who gets those paramedics? Before you get to the call there is no way to definitively know if a medic is needed. IF you dispatch an EMT-I to a call and all of a sudden the patient requires a skill that requires a EMT-P, do yous it and...

    esophageal detection device

Heck yeah you can fight it! CPAP if you have it, meds if they can tolerate it. BVM to force air in. Granted you may not always win the fight, but isn't our job just a fight with our patient's body?
