    FP-C renew question

As an addition to this thread- for my first renewal I was pretty unsure about the whole renewal process as one of the other guys at my base at the time made it sound like it was a daunting task, it really wasn’t. The lady in charge of certifications and renewals was (is) super helpful. She was...

    FP-C renew question

Should be every 4. Just re-upped mine and it’s due in 4 more years. Color me jealous.

    the 100% directionless thread

James Dean. The actual crash site is listed as Hwy 41 and Hwy 46. This was at Blackwell’s Corner, which is an auto launch area per our counties criteria. Truly off the beaten path. Decided to take the fam for a quick trip up the coast through Pismo, San Simeon (Hearst Castle is really awesome)...

What do you look for in boots?

This. IIRC, 4 pm is when they recommend you start to shop for shoes (boots?). As an avid runner I’ve abided by this until I’d had my shoe size memorized; it works. Boot preference for me is still the Redback station boots. I love me some slip ons with a solid sole. I don’t wear and tear through...

    California Earthquakes

Didn’t feel the first one much. The misses and girls did. The second one hit as we were on final approach at our base last night. ATC told our pilot it was actively rocking up there (eesh, not a place I would want to be in for one). No extra long shifts thus far. Re: recalls and strike teams...

Airway Management and Intubating without Drugs

A nice little updated piece on current recommendations for RSI meds and different subsets of patients. There isn't a whole lot of change I see, but figured worth a share. https://www.uptodate.com/contents/induction-agents-for-rapid-sequence-intubation-in-adults-outside-the-operating-room

If you could go back to the start of your EMS career and give yourself advice, what would it be?

I think where I see the problem is what’s being projected versus what’s reality- 2 completely different things. How many instructors do you know of enthusiastically implying the endless options you have as a paramedic aside from roles that aren’t in other branches of public service or medicine...

Bakersfield. No female partners required. They’re typically genuinely helpful.

    Privatized EMS in Placentia CA

Overall, this is good. It’s unfortunate for the patient who was dealt this card, but I think we know it’s nothing new. What is new is how it’s being brought to the attention of the general public in regards to the FD’s piss poor care. So, overall, it’s good.

If you could go back to the start of your EMS career and give yourself advice, what would it be?

Hardly. My bottom line with all of them is higher education, one way or another. But considering a lot of them have yet to take themselves seriously, and again—to no fault of their own—are often fed lies about this job, I feel it’s a disservice not to point out the endless other options that...

    Privatized EMS in Placentia CA

I highly doubt that their transport times to tertiary centers will yield negative outcomes. Their coverage area is densely populated. And, FWIW even most of these self professed “vent gurus” will admit that the A/C vs. SIMV debate hardly comes down to overall outcomes. Patient comfort...

Lol, I hear ya man, but at least they’re trying. I say good on them, and I hope they show up OCFA’s “paramedical rescue” care.

If you could go back to the start of your EMS career and give yourself advice, what would it be?

I agree, and I tell every EMT/ EMT student that comes to the airport for a tour this same exact thing. I don’t know how often it sinks if, especially when being they’re fed the nauseatingly tiresome lines EMS offers by their instructors. And, to be fair if I could smack the 22-year old me...

    Privatized EMS in Placentia CA

And in the before the before time AMR was in house with them. They were Cerritos division paramedics assigned there. They had Vernon FD uniforms, helmets, etc. etc. and ran out of Vernon FD ambulances with no sign of them being AMR medics aside their nifty little badges. Once they botched that...

Airway Management and Intubating without Drugs

I’d be interested to know how this pans out for you and your program. It’s such a simple calculation, and I think it’d help keep things like resuscitation prior to induction and it’s ok to take a minute if it will save you several post-induction in the back of the providers minds.
