    A 'lil Dizzy

I call for ALS. SVT and the high bgl plus suspicion of drug interaction. (Can a dr in the US see all other drugs other drs have prescribed to the pt and all other medical history?) I think the dermatologist messed up and he shouldn't be on oral steroids. If an ALS unit is closer to me than the...

    Dumbest Questions People Ask You

Yesterday I had a pt who asked me repeatedly if he was conscious. Am I conscious? Yes Are you sure? I am very sure. Am I going to loose consciousness? Unfortunately, no. Well, how will I know if I loose consciousness? Don't worry, If you suddenly loose consciousness I'll let you know...

I think the translation of the word we use is report but yeah, when we let them know what is coming so they can be ready.

    Crewmember in Distress

So to start with we have a totally different emergency system. There is not 1 number that you call for any emergency like 911. You call 100 for police, 101 for ambulance, 102 or fire and 103 for electrical (like downed wires and such). All the dispatchers can transfer you to each other if you...

    Crewmember in Distress

Its a personal radio? You take it out of the ambulance with you? The only time we use such a thing is for large events. If we are not in the ambulance we usually talk to dispatch on our cellphones.

    Crewmember in Distress

We are often 2 people and usually way outnumbered by the family members. Esp in certain sectors that tend more towards violence than others. Two crew members surrounded by 10 family members who are all in an emotional state is generally not the best odds.

    Crewmember in Distress

I have used the same code - MDA 1000 - (it's shorter to say in Hebrew than in English) to let my driver know a pt was trying to assult me. He was able to understand and pullover to help me right away. I didn't want to straight say I needed help since I didn't know if the pt had a propensity for...

    Crewmember in Distress

Yes. This has happened here before. A crew arrived on sceen and the pt was way past dead. They didnt start CPR as he was in rigor. The family refused to let the team leave or call dispatch. Finally the crew told the family that in order to help the guy that they needed someone to bring a...

What is your most ridiculous call?

I had a guy who "might have broken his pinky". I also had a call the other night came is as 92 year old female in respiratory distress. Turns out she just didnt want to go to bed (it was 1130pm) and called an ambulance so her caretaker would have to let her stay up later.

Do you have a code for crewmember in distress? Something you can give on the phone or radio or say to let others know you are in distress and need help?

    My CVA pt Took Aspirin

He didn't actually tell us that he took the aspirin until I asked what he had taken for the pain. Then he told me he took the aspirin and said it didn't help and now the pain was worse. Also, aspirin is not commonly used as a pain killer here. The fact that he took it for a headache is...

    My CVA pt Took Aspirin

Yes. Diabetic (uncontrolled, his blood sugar was 380), hypertensive, history of TIA. It's so sad when you get that train wreck of a patient. And in CVA there is literally nothing you can do except get them to the ER as quick as possible. We opened the CVA protocol at the hospital and went as...

    My CVA pt Took Aspirin

My CVA pt took aspirin for his headache. Then he called us and said that the headache was worse now and that he could no longer use his right arm or leg. The thing is the guy had a history of previous TIAs. Why did he even have aspirin in the house? Thank G-d he was still alive by the time we...

What was your first 911 call?

Does 911 dispatch you directly? In Israel there is only 1 national dispatch that answers 101 (our version of 911 calls) and dispatches ambulances. Its a national ambulance service so no different companies. Also, all of our dispatches are also field medics. This helps in getting the right...

What was your first 911 call?

Interesting. So how does 911 decide which ambulane to send? Are there ambulances that only do 911 calls? Does this differ by state?
