    the 100% directionless thread

Well, after some time contemplating a move entirely out of state, I ended up being re-offered the EHS job I was offered last year right before covid and had more or less entirely written off. I had interviewed and accepted a conditional offer, submitted background check authorization, and then...

Exploring a move to North Carolina (as seen elsewhere on the forums)... I must say that in general I am pleasantly surprised by the speed of government down there. I applied in late December for an Assistant Fire Marshal job... already have a video interview scheduled in 2 weeks with a possible...

Speaking of sleep studies, anyone have experience with Ognomy? It sets up a telehealth consult, they'll mail you some diagnostic equipment, make prescription from there if you need CPAP.

I miss having a rowing machine, had a Stamina one. Good workout but loud and space-consuming and did get boring without something to watch or listen to

Cops and former cops: do you like EMS better?

There's a reason 80,000 people sign up every 5 years or so to take a test so they can collect garbage

Cops and former cops: do you like EMS better?

Better way to ask may be: if pay/benefits/schedule were the same, which would you choose? NYC for example. Police, Fire, EMS are all city jobs. EMS is paid absolute garbage and run around like crazy. People use it as a place holder job until getting hired by another city agency, hospital, or...

Why do we love the stretcher in the United States?

I'm going to take a wild guess that at some point in the past, lawyers got involved, and from that point the stretcher was pushed to prevent patients from walking.

Man accused of sexually assaulting FDNY EMT released without charges

FDNY EMS is one of those agencies that from the outside looks like it should be amazing, but is basically a publicly funded version of the crappiest private EMS companies. The only saving grace is the promotion to firefighter opportunity and there is a push to close that.

    COVID VACCINE - The Megathread

In NY the state reached out to all paramedics seeking help giving the vaccine at state sites. There is some training involved but it's more about procedure.

    COVID VACCINE - The Megathread

I'm in NY where the process is being run, well like it's being run by the State. Website crashes at almost every turn, not prepared for the traffic. Appointments being cancelled because doses are being diverted to other facilities. They opened up 1A and they had their own time for a bit, but...

Yup. Places want part timers around for a smaller stipend than a full paid force. Sometimes a minimal crew or just drivers. Sometimes the call volume doesn't justify having someone 24/7 but it is beneficial during certain hours. Paid EMS responders are a regular thing near me. Many fire...
