Whats your "criteria" for starting iv access on a pt?

We use IVs from the field. Generally we determine if its safe to induce with whatever is in place or not and then if needed place additional IVs. That being said, the most frustrating thing is seeing a 22 in the AC with distal targets that weren't attempted. The AC just isn't reliable enough for...

    Death of Elijah McClain

He weighed 63 kg (140 lbs), so for agitation (around 3-4mg/kg) that’s not the most reasonable dose for sedation but rather an induction dose for general anesthesia. Co-administration of benzodiazepines helps with emergence. People report terrible vivid dreams/nightmares, so it definitely helps...

In contrast look how the flu gets tracked. Mostly via voluntary registries, which then estimate totals off of swab sensitivity and prior years cases, and automated coding of death certificates.

Is it more scattered and inconsistent than other epidemiological data though? I don't do epi, but have read enough to say that the argument that its quite the opposite can be made. Edit: That being said, everything comes down to local data at this point as a way of implementing targeted public...

The regional variation in the US is pretty significant and there is a lot of variation in publicly reported data. Just randomly googling looked at AZ DHS. There you can see that over the past few weeks there is an increasing number of PCR tests being performed while also having an increasing %...

What makes you so sure that people didn't call out? Or that the ED nursing admins didn't call their nursing pool and asked to cover OT shifts?

There are other ways to protest an assignment for sure. I wasn't in Detroit, but rather in NY and would say it was an acute emergency where anything goes. In my unit we staffed 3-5 critically ill patients per non-ICU nurse. The doctors/NPs/PAs did all the sedation and vasoactive medication...

    Pre-hospital Patient Registration

I wonder how this type of system would effect the number of improperly registered patients. I constantly am reviewing patient's charts and saying "wow this sounds really familiar" but this presentation through the ED is the first one for their account. Later on I realize, oh yeah this person...

That is unfortunate, it makes everything so much easier. Though even with a Swan in, the 9Fr lumen runs faster than the 12ga lumen. We use the 9Fr w/ swan for volume and 12ga as our infusion line.

and there we come back to the 100mg/100ml. Can give 0.1-0.3mg/kg IV bolus followed by continuous infusion 0.1-0.3mg/kg/hr or 2-5mcg/kg/min.
