How would you splint this injury?

Thanks to all for the responses. This was a weird one for me to work out! If EMS has taught me anything, it’s to look beyond the appearance of an injury.

    Law Enforcement / Medic

The LASD and NYPD both have full time SWAT Medics. The LASD has medical helicopters, and the NYPD has a couple of ambulances. Tulsa PD has quite a few police medics too. Dallas PD has at least three reservists who are physicians and I know two work SWAT. I personally would love to just be a full...

How would you splint this injury?

https://goo.gl/images/FQbnQH My first impression is that this seems to be a joint injury to me; So I would first control bleeding, check for PMS, and attempt to splint in a position of function, etc.. (splinting bone above and below) But I feel like that may cause more damage than good by...

When to use TQ over pressure bandage?

It may be a bit much for some applications, but it makes sense to me for an edc.

When to use TQ over pressure bandage?

I may be answering my own question here, but wouldn’t you use a pressure bandage on a wound that CAN be controlled with direct pressure and a TQ on a wound that CANNOT? We didn’t go over a lot of different bandages in EMT school, just the different jack-of-all-trades applications of a few. The...

What is the worst rookie mistake you've seen

I REALLY shouldn’t admit this, but I tripped over a pt’s ekg wires in the emergency room. Don’t ask me how, but it happened. No one there was hard on me though; I was hard enough on myself. As I’ve gotten older I’ve just learned not to beat myself up over the stupid little mistakes. Rookies...

    I really don't care.

Fire or Ambulance District? Which do you prefer?

I think it's pretty obvious I was referring to being issued turnouts and being able to save someone's life/ being apart of a rescue.

    Sounds pretty awesome!

Fire or Ambulance District? Which do you prefer?

Well.. that is exactly what they said! I'm guessing you guys have seen this before, haha! I know a lot of guys who are FF/P who have taken BLS jobs though. I have no idea why you would put yourself through medic school with how difficult it is and how much it cost (10k here) just to be doing EMT...

    Police Based Paramedics

Here's a CHP flight medic. Maryland State Police also has State Trooper Flight Medics. Pretty cool gig. I'd probably do it if Missouri used police flight Medics.

Fire or Ambulance District? Which do you prefer?

I can totally see that. St. Louis County is majority fire based EMS and the suburbs and rural areas are Ambulance districts. What's kinda funny is that even where I live we have an Ambulance District, but most of our firefighters are ALS equipped now. They had so many Medics applying for BLS...

Fire or Ambulance District? Which do you prefer?

Hey, I'm a fairly new EMT-B soon to be medic student. I live in MO, and we have a good mix of ambulances run by county EMS agencies and some run by local fire districts. I was just wondering what some of your experiences and preferences were with these models of EMS systems. Also, do...
