Why Burn first aid is as important as any advanced life support treatment and why US EMS stinks at burn first aid.

I took ABLS today. They recommend coming with tepid water then wrapping with dry sterile bandages, and wrapping with plastic wrap.

IFT Post stroke pt - does ems need to get tpa administration time?

Yes, I would like to know when the TPA was started and/or finished. Most of my TPA patients have the TPA running during transport, then we finish the administration en route to the stroke center. You mentioned the CPSS. The CPSS is a qualitative assessment, not quantitative. That means it...

Dose EMS need a Strike team

Many states have exactly that. I believe the OP is in California, so I'll answer with that relevant information, although I could be mistaken on that. CA EMSA has 26 DMSUs (Disaster Medical Supply Unit) throughout the state. These function very similar to OES fire engines in that the state...

Why Burn first aid is as important as any advanced life support treatment and why US EMS stinks at burn first aid.

I read your post. Here's my problem with it: It didn't tell me any of the following: - What I'm doing wrong - What I should be doing - How to implement it - Consideration of variables for availability of burn hospital care, transport times, level of service, etc... If you can explain what I'm...

Dose EMS need a Strike team

And I'll add, that on am AST, you do very little if any treatment in most circumstances. Your role is transport.

Dose EMS need a Strike team

Your idea for what an AST is, seems to be misplaced. The militia and things like that are for moving bodies (dead or alive) triage and management in a CCP. ASTs are for transport. Be it from an extended scene or evacuated nursing homes, hospitals, etc...

Dose EMS need a Strike team

You're asking the wrong question. ASTs and MTFs already exist in several states (including California) and at the federal level with FEMA. Yes, we do need them. The question should be, how do we more appropriately utilize these resources? You mention things like DMAT. State DMATs have been...

    Scheduling software?

+1 for Ninthbrain. We use every thing except time keeping and scheduling on it. I don't know why we dont, since it can.

    Scheduling software?

Every where I've worked has used ePro/NetScheduler which was recently bought by ESO. It's good, and is feature rich. None of the places I've worked have ever used it to it's full capacity, maybe it's difficult. 9th Brain is another one. We use it for a lot of things, like certification...

    Grey Death Heroin

They called it Red Death... We actually watched it in my EMT class an hour ago [emoji23]

    Grey Death Heroin

How come these warnings never come from EMS, hospitals, public health, or the CDC? They always come from law enforcement. Hmm.

And old Ambulance turned into a Tiny home

I've seen that guy's videos. It's not just a camper it's an overlander. I wish he would spend more time learning the details of the ambulance, and some of the stuff was a little weird, but definitely an ambitious and cool project. He got a smoking deal on that ambulance. It was practically new...

Is a Portable Ultrasound the future for EMS

Right, but in the absence of other indicators for a trauma center, it could help. You're never going to catch them all, unless you over triage everyone

Is a Portable Ultrasound the future for EMS

I will also counter this and say EMS FAST exams absolutely can change a destination. I work in a rural county with no trauma services. Most of our residents prefer not to be transported 2 counties away "just in case." So we often take low acuity traumas to our local hospital, and inevitably some...

Is a Portable Ultrasound the future for EMS

Is it the future of EMS? No. But I do see a future where it's not uncommon to see POCUS deployed prehospital. My agency has a butterfly we are setting up before we deploy one on every ambulance. Does POCUS change the game? No. But it offers an opportunity to be better for those agencies who...

    AMR CCT Paramedic

I won't argue any of that. I do miss some parts of California, like the Sierras and my hometown, Ventura. But cost of living compared to EMS pay... It's much more comfortable elsewhere. My wife is also in EMS and we couldn't find anywhere we wanted to live in California that we could afford on...

    AMR CCT Paramedic

Crime has gone up significantly there. While it's not on the scale of the IE, it's no where near what it used to be.

    AMR CCT Paramedic

I guess it's all perspective, but I don't consider even Lompoc or Santa Maria affordable anymore. $400k for a 3br 2ba in those towns with exploding crime is insane. The perspective I speak of is me moving from the California coast to the mid west.

And spend how much on housing?... (It's a rhetorical question. I have family in Lompoc.)

    Narcan, or Not.

EMS World published an article about paramedics giving Suboxone or Subutex with narcan. Apparently New Jersey has added this in their state protocols. I'm interested to hear some opinions from the wise and experienced people here.
