Ended up accepting a lateral position to work at this “busier” place. A fat raise and cutting my commute from an hour to 15 minutes did it. Culturally they seem to get it and the department seems a bit more developed and professional. They have 24/7 EMS supervisor positions to aspire to as...

When would you request a supervisor to a scene?

I called for a supervisor working at a city AMR op exactly once. Wasn’t cleared to RSI, they were, so they came and pushed the drugs and followed to the ED. The supe came more often than that, if you asked for cops emergent was a big one. Or if you got lost going to calls routinely, he might...

Pittsburgh EMS, FD feud over response times and ‘hostile takeover’

Nailed it. EMS can be a grind, and for the money tha lt most make, it is. But add some benefits and great pay and suddenly it’s a career.

Pittsburgh EMS, FD feud over response times and ‘hostile takeover’

I was single role at my job now, but I made the same as the FF/medics. I went to the fire academy for promotional opportunities as the single role medics could never obtain any rank, only a “coordinator role.” That’s a department issue, but it’s what I faced. I spend most shifts on the medic...

3 killed in Kentucky medical helicopter crash

Colorado passed additional legislation to add surprise billing protections for patients getting emergency care (to include air medical) and we all thought that would cut unnecessary utilization down. That was not the case, as you said the insurers still seem to be paying all these transports. We...

3 killed in Kentucky medical helicopter crash

Wish this was true everywhere. My previous job served a CAH that was 45 minutes from a real hospital. We did 7-800 transfers a year out 4000 total calls. Many of these happened in bad weather, at night, or when our resource levels were low simply because the facility did not want the patient to...

    the 100% directionless thread

I have a chill job call volume wise. Our busiest unit averages four calls in 24 hours. A transport is 90-120 minute affair depending on the area so it’s not the slowest. I’m going through a process with a job that is much busier. Like 11k calls between four stations but has a hospital in...

The Fire Chief is rarely expected to have any sort of tactical involvement, which is a role filled by an operations deputy or other similar title. Often happens at EMS services too.

I think at his ripe age of 20 he just doesn’t know any better. Fancy radio strap, rolls of tape on the pockets, etc etc. new guy vibes. One day I’m sure he’ll see pictures of himself and be like “why didn’t someone bully me out of wearing this.” Working on a 911 ambulance when you’re 20 makes...

    Bariatric Transports

My part time AMR job does have a bari rig with ramps and the super wide manual cot. Usually they send a BLS crew to bring it out to us or a supervisor if it’s urgent. It’s also available to mutual aid agencies if the system isn’t too overloaded. I have also used wheelchair cans to transport...

    Pyxis for Narcotics

Anyone here using a Pyxis to issue narcotics? I don’t mean at hospitals, or hospitals issuing to EMS. My department purchased a small unit which should allow crews to issue narcs to themselves. So far it’s been a bit of a disaster, would love to hear if anyone has had success.

    Bariatric Transports

With the advent of the wing side rails on the cot and auto loader systems, we have minimal use for specialized bariatric equipment. But this is Colorado, I would have a different opinion if I live elsewhere I’m sure.

    Sapphire pump programming

We had half sets for our mini meds and those made those pumps even more temperamental so we stopped carrying them. We changed to spectrums and just stuck with full sets.

The minimed coulda been the transport pump to rule them all. But alas. So persnickety. I miss having a pump.

Yes, this is unusual. Not sure what one poster here is trying to prove. Would probably argue the color of the sky with you too.

    How do you treat this.

Rate control is a great way to provide symptoms relief. I suspect this patient will feel much better post CCB, which is a big reason why I give them.
