freezing up and choking during skill drills

I appreciate everybody's responses. A lot of them were very eye opening and helpful to me. Can't remember who exactly said what, but I got the gist about if your classroom performance is sh* then you're screwed. I really felt that way actually. I worked with my teacher about this issue and he...

freezing up and choking during skill drills

I actually talked to my instructor about my anxiousness about 2 weeks ago and he stayed after class with me and did drills with me and really helped me work through being choked up. it helped a LOT. I was very grateful. I just made the cut into the 2nd part of the program :)

freezing up and choking during skill drills

So I started EMT-B school in mid-January. My teacher is really great. Works with us individually and everything. We're kind of just starting to move into skills training (opposed to the first two weeks with lectures around safety, professionalism, importance of documenting, how radios work...

    Starting EMT school soon

Haha slow your roll :) I just started EMT-B school back in January and have been talking a lot with some very knowledgeable people on here who have helped me a ton. A paramedic vs. EMT is a difference in education, training and basically what your state "allows" you to do. Paramedics are...

    Outside EMS?

Hey nothing wrong with that. Family first I love studying languages (and music / video games / reading / watching documentaries / drawing) because those activities keep my brain engaged (vs. watching Netflix or something -- which is awesome, it's just almost painful for me if it's not something...

    premptive strike on the NREMT

Oh wow thank you. I was kind of noticing that trend you were speaking of during our regular online exams. Kind of like how some of the answers seem right but there is one that is absolutely right. I kept your advice in mind just now as I was doing a chapter test and it was crazy. I did really...

    premptive strike on the NREMT

That's reassuring. We have a skills binder for school that has to be signed by a handful of students and two instructors (your teacher and who ever is volunteering their time). It's funny that you mentioned asking for difficult scenarios because last week during airway management I said exactly...

    Outside EMS?

What do you guys like to do for hobbies/leisure outside of EMS? I like to play music / video games, learn languages and read. :D I apologize if this is not the appropriate forum for this question.

    premptive strike on the NREMT

The EMT textbook is my bible right now lol. My brain is like a sponge - it just absorbs that information; I guess because it's so fascinating to me. But I grew up with both parents in medicine (anesthetists) and it is all just so fascinating to me. We're getting to the point in class where we...

    premptive strike on the NREMT

Thanks! You've put a good spin on my perspective. I feel a lot less freaked now haha. Plus I have an excellent teacher. He puts us all randomly on the spot with questions during lecture/skills, which is terrifying but I love. I'll just put my energy into that for now then. Oh, and we do use...

    premptive strike on the NREMT

I am a sparkling brand spanking new EMS student (like, we just finished anatomy/physiology and pathology and are moving into airways). I'm terrified of the NREMT. What is the best way I can start to tackle studying for it NOW? I obviously know very little at this point, but would love to get a...

    EMT and mental health

Thanks for your response! Believe me, I've done a lot of soul searching on if I could handle the things I would see / encounter on the job. I feel like a lifetime of dealing with certain traumas has made me able to handle. A lot of people have asked me if I could handle all of it, actually. I...

    EMT and mental health

Thank you so much! I'm in the process of completing my physical for school (it's all filled out, except for a letter from my psychiatrist and meds that I take...). I didn't tell BEMS (the state bureau of emergency medical services --I'm in Louisiana) but I didn't know if I should disclose my...

    EMT and mental health

Hey all, I'm new to the site. I'm very passionate about EMS and after a year of solid pondering I decided to go for it. I'm enrolled at a school and starting in mid-January. I literally couldn't be more thrilled. However, I'm diagnosed with bipolar II, anxiety and ADD. I've been stable on...
