Thoughts on Royal Ambulance in the bay area California?

Curious to know how it is there since I hear very great things and they are the highest rated in the entire bay area. Is anyone familiar with the work environment there and is it a great stepping stone? Also, how is the schedule and hiring process?

People somewhat jokingly say they are ran by the mafia. For a mom and pop ambulance shop, they are actually pretty big in Alameda and Santa Clara County. I hear mostly positive things about them. I've never asked anyone their pay or work schedule though.

If you can, go for Falck. Falck is the 911 provider for Alameda County so it'll be very competitive to get in. AMR is also another good choice, but they only do non emergency interfacility transfers (like Royal) in Alameda County. AMR is a good option because they are union and have 911 contracts throughout California, especially the Bay Area. AMR does 911 in San Mateo County, Santa Clara County, Contra Costa County, Santa Cruz County, Santa Rosa, Stansislaus, San Joaquin, and they are backup in San Francisco with some dedicated 911 cars. AMR has a bad reputation outside of the Bay Area, but complete opposite in the Bay Area. Generally AMR is the best private you can work for in the Bay Area, usually highest paid, best benefits, and both EMTs and paramedics can make a career working there.

Companies like ProTransport-1, Westmed, Royal, Norcal, etc.. they have little to no 911 contracts. They generally pay less. Most of those companies weren't union (except ProTransport-1) so their pay and benefits aren't usually the best. Falck is the only private 911 in the area that isn't AMR. There are fire departments eg San Francisco Fire Department, Alameda City Fire Department, South San Francisco Fire, id you want to be on the ambulance, but all fire departments in the Bay Area are highly competitve with even experienced 911 EMTs and paramedics struggling to get in.

If I were you, I'd apply to all 911s. They hire new people, but not frequently. You generally have to test well and be likeable in the interview. It's rare to get hired with no prior experience. AMR San Leandro or San Francisco are your best bet after that. If you can't get hired with any of them within a reasonable amount of time, work any IFT locally. The only bad IFT company I've heard is United. I would probably pass on United. I've never heard anything good about them. Westmed, Royal, Norcal, ProTransport-1, Falcon CCT are all okay to work. Each have their pros and cons. They are all kind of established where they are. I don't personally think one is better than the other.
