ER Tech Jobs in Denver Area

Hey everyone,

Apologies for the long post. Just wanted you guys to have full context to help give some accurate guidance.

I’m moving to loHi area of Denver on January 1st. I’ve been an EMT in California for about 5 years working both private and for a fire department that had an ambulance program. I got hired as a firefighter, messed up a ladder throw on my 6 month test and here I am with the opportunity to move and start over.

First thing I noticed is there aren’t many emt jobs on ambulances compared to where I was. Falck seems like the only one doing 911 still and no more 24hr shifts. Because of that I’m looking at ER tech jobs instead.

Everyone on here mentions good things about Denver health. Nothing on the website shows up for ER tech jobs. Do they hire for this position? I’m also interested in doing their 12 month paramedic program in 2021 so I’m trying to get this job in hopes to network with the right folks for job and educational opportunities.

Any feedback is much appreciated. If this has already been discussed, I must’ve not found it in the threads and I apologize for being somewhat repetitive. Thanks

You messed up a ladder throw and lost your career?

If you still want to be a firefighter, look into South Metro Fire in the Denver area. They are a fantastic fire department with EMS, and they actually have a very good EMS system.

Yeah I actually did look into them, definitely has become my dream department and ultimately where I would like to end up. But for now I’ve got to make ends meet until they open back up.

AMR Boulder and Stadium have 911 as well.

I think all of the EDs hire EMT techs, I’m not aware of any that don’t although the Denver system is not where my employment currently is. If you want to be competitive, you’ll need an IV cert. The community college’s EMS programs offer them.

Lutheran in Wheat Ridge fairly consistently hires ED and BH techs.

Denver Health recently opened for EMTs. Starting rate is just about $17/hr.

I did sign up for the IV course, that’s the last box I need to check off. Is AMR Boulder 24 hr shifts?

Damn, Denver health is where I wanted to work but I saw nothing for EMTs on their website. I hope I didn’t miss the mark. I’ll look into the other two.

Gotcha, not trying to be picky just seeing what the trend is up in CO. I appreciate the info. I’m going to apply to them as soon as to them as soon as I get my IV cert. I’m also applying to golden FD for their volunteer FF position. Any word on what that experience is like?

They have a pretty legit in-house academy as well as a demanding initial monthly hourly requirement. I work with a guy that went through there and then got on with us and did an 18 week municipal fire academy. Even with him being a dialed, full time FF, they still wanted him to volunteer an absurd number of hours per month. I get it with new people, but seems a little silly.

Fairmount and Pleasant View I think allow out of district volunteers (fairmount for sure).

Wow that’s pretty aggressive to ask a volunteer to work so much. I’ll look into Pleasant View and Fairmount. Thanks Tigger.

So Denver Health hires EMTs for ambulance and detox jobs through the Paramedic Division as well as ER techs through the ED. 2 separate positions with 2 separate listings.

The only listing I see for EMTs right now is a Behavioral Health Tech at the city jail. Not sure if that matches your interests or not...

There’s VST jobs open, too, but I don’t think the pay is great. It would give a leg up for the next round of EMT hiring at Denver Health, though.

This is great info thank you very much. I clicked on the hyperlink you provided and one of the jobs posted on 12/4 is titled “paramedic emt-basic”. It looks like it requires the basic emt cert, IV, drivers license, etc.
Is this a legit position I could apply for? Or am I mistaking it for a paramedic position. Also I’m not familiar with what a VST is.

That’s the position I was referencing. The Paramedic part threw me off as well.

AMR lost the Golden contract to, I believe, Stadium. I heard they’re running 3 ambulances for the city. Maybe 24s? I’m not sure. It’s worth looking into.

Do you have a firefighting cert? There’s a bunch of little volunteer departments in the Foothills. Elk Creek and Inter-Canyon are starting an academy in January.

Good catch, I missed that one. It’s an EMT-B job, I believe it’s listed that way since it’s under the paramedic division.

Do you generally how long the applications stay open for? Only asking because it says it requires Colorado DL and IV cert which I don’t have yet.

Can’t hurt to apply. I definitely wouldn’t worry about the Colorado DL, as long as you have a valid state driver’s license somewhere it’s easy to transfer. As far as the IV cert, we do classes in house, you might be able to get hired and just have to take the class within a certain amount of time. I’d definitely apply, just be upfront about the IV cert.

Nice I’m pumped, thanks for all the help from everyone. I hope I can pay it forward someday.
