Heya guys! So after a weekend of waiting around twittling my thumbs, I found out I passed the National Registry. I got all my certifications and I am ready to get out into the workforce!

My question is about the hiring process of companies in the Central Valley of California (Stanislaus, Merced County, etc.)

How long do they usually take to respond back to you? What is the hiring process? Etc. Also, any good companies that you guys want to throw my way would also be appreciated!

Riggs, it’s much closer (Merced County) than Fresno County, and TMK, every bit as reputable.

I applied to Riggs. Apparently, they don't really hire EMTs outright. They hire you as a Service System Technician first, then promote you to EMT... It's not necessarily what I wanted to do, but if it means working for a good company in the long run, then I guess it's worth it

Standards. Honestly? This is a good sign, and I only wish my service did this. It would show some commitment on behalf of the EMT’s that they do hire.

Willingness to learn the ins and outs of things such as equipment, and/ or coverage areas (some of the old skoolers at my service started off in our medi-van service) would weed out so much of the self-entitled “seen-it-alls” that are all too often sent to the airport when we need an EMT to transport us to local area hospitals.

It may not be what you want to do, but I can almost guarantee you need to (at least) try it. Plus, more than likely you’d be in the field in the blink of an eye and be able to dissect your unit for your partner posthaste. Win, win, no?

I totally agree with you! Don't get me wrong! I just got my hopes up after all the schooling and passing the National Registry. But I do think it's a good idea. Plus Riggs is an excellent place to work.

My EMT partner the other day identified a gi bleed, requested blood and helped us set up a field blood transfusion. Just a few steps ahead of the pacer...

To be completely honest, I didn't even know that we could do field blood transfusions

It's a Texas thing.

We don't have a state scope of practice, so our local medical directors call the shots. Makes it interesting.

Www.ccems.com and ESD48.

www.hcec.com is good too.

And we didn't ask a doctor either.
