To anyone interested in flying, a place like this would not be a bad start. They’re often free (like this one is). You can often network and find out a lot about the industry firsthand from these types of conventions, and demos.

I would have posted this sooner, but happened to stumble across the convention while driving through Los Angeles with the fam, and looked over and saw a sea of helicopters including REACH, CHP, and Mercy Air.

Be sponge and get as much education and "street experience" as possible. A positive attitude, able to take constructive advice, personable demeanor, willing to go the extra mile and strong clinical skills are things needed. If you can find a CCEMT-P course, take it then prepare for the FP-C or CCP-C test. The CCEMT-P course is a good course to give you the basics to transition into the Critical Care and flight field. 3 years experience is the minimum for many flight services.

Best of luck

I agree with just about everything you’ve eluded to, but I’m a bit biased when (constantly) recommending Creighton University’s CCP program/ course.

It’s hardly death-by-PowerPoint, and involves interacting both online via discussions, and in-person skills/ clinicals. Florida has a rather intriguing one as well. With that, I am in search of a UMBC CCEMTP on the Left Coast for my next go round of FP-C con-ed.

Creighton is pricier, but every bit worth it. If you’re (OP) truly interested in flight, you’re going to want to be interested in all aspects of critical care paramedicine. HEMS is merely a faction of the above.
