hello, I know there are tons of threads on this, however I would like everyone's personal experience.

What do you think is the best IFT company (yes IFT, not including 911 since most people will probably say they are best.. Also I mean best and not highest paid) and why? Some examples

Falck (verihealth)
NorCal ambulance
Medic ambulance
WestMed ambulance
Royal ambulance
Falcon ambulance
Etc...

On a large number of accounts, I would vote for Royal. They hired me as an EMT-B "with experience" (I had worked elsewhere, at a horrible, now long-defunct agency called Pacific Coast Ambulance). They championed me, promoted me and truly were arguably the biggest spring board in my career.

They like to promote from within (FTO, Field Supervisor, etc). When I last worked for them (circa 2010) I was the Clincal EMS Coordinator / CEU guy & they paid a considerably respectable wage.

Google search the articles on Royal, there's even a full article just on the "spring board" concept - something they embrace and utilize to improve their people... As opposed to treating you like you are cannon fodder since "you're leaving anyways".

I can really get prophetic, but I'll summarize to say this: if you want to feel valued & not just be a number, meet good friends, feel as if you're part of a family... I would rank that as the top thing which made me so loyal to this day. In closing - even though I work full time at FD, I'm even considering (someday) to work some part time office hours there. Not because I need the cheddar, simply because I believe in them THAT much.

I second Royal Ambulance.

I worked there as my first EMS job.. and they are a great company to work for. I worked there for a year before moving on to a 911 company. I felt like it was more of a family than anything else. They are very concerned with what their people are aiming for. They understand that you are using the job to gain experience. Former Royal EMT's are all over Bay Area fire departments and 911 rigs.... SFFD, San Jose Fire, Oakland Fire, Alameda County Fire, Contra Costa County Fire, AMR San Mateo County 911, Paramedics Plus Alameda County... you name a department.. there is probably a former Royal EMT there. Oh... and nursing students, PA's.... coming from Royal.

They champion patient care and patient experience. It really helps to be a new Basic, coming out of school, coming into a company that really values being a good person and a good caregiver. It set me up for success.

They also are on speed dial for a lot of Skilled Nursing Facilities when they need code 2 transport to ED's. Many other companies that you would work for will very rarely dispatch you a code 2 transport. It made me a better EMT for sure and set me up nicely to move to 911.
