PRN Feedback For Possible Applicants

So I'm looking at moving up from my dirt-paying current company to PRN, but haven't heard anything about them at all. I checked out their site, and the pay looks nice. However, the $3,000 hiring bonus for EMT-B's is worrying me, as I'm concerned about why they're offering that large an incentive for what is a dime-a-dozen certification. I can understand bonuses for medics and RN's but not for an EMT-B. In addition, what shifts do they offer, what's the OT policy, how easy is it to pick up OT, and how is management?
Any PRN employees that can shed light on the company?

Don't know anything about the company, but are you really worried about a $3,000 signing bonus??? if you don't want it, I'm sure someone else will gladly take it.

Personally, I wouldn't accept any offer without knowing what they are paying me, what types of shift they have, and what type of shift I am likely to start at.

In fact, I would ask for all this information after they gave me the offer and before I accepted the position.

After looking at their website, they don't offer the signing bonus everywhere (see orange county); it looks like they only offer it in areas where they need people.

also, just by checking out their website for EMT positions https://prnambulance.candidatecare.jobs/job_positions/preview/15235:

Compensation and Benefits:

  • Up to $19.32/hour based on experience (includes scheduled overtime) (so that's what you top out at, I'm betting you aren't starting anywhere near there... might want to make a phone call and ask what the starting salary is)
  • Sign-On Bonus up to $3,000
  • Daily overtime opportunities after 8 hours
  • Night pay differential and assorted shifts available.
  • Flexible scheduling to work with outside commitments such as school.
  • Medical, Dental, Vision, HSA, Legal Shield and more!
  • 401(k) Retirement Plan
  • Holiday Pay
  • Hiring 18 years of age and older
  • Several promotional opportunities such as FTO, Field Supervisor, Management Training, ect.
  • PRN Ambulance will pay for your DOT, DMV H6, DL51, ACLS, PALS, and BLS/CPR up to $150 each upon hire.

Call and ask? Or better yet, apply, land an interview then ask all of these questions to the person(s) interviewing you directly. You can then decide whether or not it's something that you're willing to accept. Either way, it literally is that simple. Also, aside from DrP doing the work for you, there are threads on here about PRN.

The omega dialysis company. I don't give them much longer. They are trying hard to keep up with the kaiser contract. Alot of calls are going out to outside companys to help their numbers. On another note. They put out all this stuff saying how they will give you a $3k sign on bonus. Read the fine print, up to. They also DO NOT give it all at once. Their are other fine liners they throw your way in order to get any bonus.
The pay they state is a rather high wage, your lucky if you will see those numbers. It's all switch bate. From people I know that work for them, the ot is non exsistent. The reason being, they don't want to pay it. The reason why they hire so much? People get fed up.

What fish said. The sign-on bonus is conditional & you can bet your private parts that they'll find a reason to not pay it. It's all the same in LACo, no matter what name is slapped on the rig; the only exception is AMR, whose rates are union & can't go lower. One good thing I'd say for all of the ambulance companies in LACo is that they push ambitious people towards better education, and (eventually) push most of the fcktards out of EMS.

So I'm looking at moving up from my dirt-paying current company to PRN

Moving from dirt pay to slightly less than dirt pay.

I worked at PRN for three days before I left. I never finished orientation, but what I saw didn't instill confidence. Shoddy equipment behind the scenes, rude management, etc.

They have that big nice station in North hills. The 2nd floor is beautifully decorated and furnished for executives, even though at the time, there was only one executive there, the owner. Down stairs was unfinished concrete floors, and cheap furniture, including the supervisors office. And the scheduler was shoved in a cinder block room in the garage, while fully furnished beautiful offices remain empty upstairs. This was 2 years after the building was finished. To me, that stinks of top heavy management who doesn't care about the field crews.

There were other issues, but I was being pretty picky at this point.

PRN definitely tries more than some LA mom and pop companies, but mostly just in appearance more than anything.

I will say, this was 3-4 years ago, so maybe it's changed (ha!), and I have friends who work there and don't complain, but they are also people who are perfectly happy working IFT because they don't want to move and it pays better than 911.

@NPO did you know our old IT guy is theirs now? Random fun factoid.

Also, do they still have that station in ELA? I thought that was their HQ. Holy moley, I'm far removed from LA EMS, lol.

Yes they have the East LA station. I've never been there though. Their HQ is now in North Hills off the 405.

Shoot, they built and opened North Hills station when I was working there back in 2013 (after I left is when they got bought out by some San Francisco based company, and by all accounts everything has gone down hill since except for exterior image....)

The east LA station is used for parking the rigs at the end of shift and nothing more. The crews run all over LAco. For posting, the crews hang out at the 60 and Atlantic exit cramped up in vanbulances.

I'm aware. Just like all SSM systems. Especially LA IFT.
