That is exactly what I had found, but I tend not to put much trust in what Wiki says. It is nice info, but I definitely like more credible sources. I am looking for someone with real life experience, or some hard evidence. The co-worker says that she was a former EMT - which I have no proof...
A few days ago a co-worker at the place I work - I am a volunteer for our local ambulance - took the blood pressure of a resident, and came up with a bp of 70/0. I am still pretty new, but I am pretty sure a diastolic bp of 0 is not possible under normal circumstances. I did some research, and...
Being a pretty new EMT I often have a difficult time coming up with my first words to my patient. After responding to a truck accident, we get the patient into the back of the ambulance and I say "So, you had a truck accident eh?" He looks at me and says "Yeah."
Needless to say, I was a bit...
I don't feel that it would be wise to take away any playground equipment that may be deemed as possibly dangerous. You talked about the Merry-go-round, and the seasaw, what about swings, jungle gyms, monkey bars etc. There is inharent danger in any playground activity! Are we going to ban our...
We have an ambulance that has a similar problem - even without the water. Hit a bump just right, and the lights/siren/both will come on. If you shut the power switch off, without the key being turned all the way off, the lights and siren will turn on, and slowly dim down as the power is bled...
I think the quickest and safest way of extracting the driver in the case of their needing imobalization would be to:
1 - Use a KED to imobalize and stabalize the neck and back
2 - Rig up a pulley system from the bridge for a Stokes and the extraction team
3 - Rig the Stokes to the pulley...
I haven't had to use many splints yet, but I have used rigid padded boards a few times, as well as vacuum splints, and I much prefer the vacuum splints.
I have not had the privilate of trying out the vibrating siren yet, or being on the other side where it is being used on me. I definitely do like the idea though. I think they will be much more effective once they are in more widespread use.
I think you made the right decision. You never want to put your neck on the line by saying you have it covered, and then have everything fall through. Never leave the shed unless you have enough crew members ON AMBULANCE to cover the call. If other crew members show up on scene after you get...
I Volunteer in a very small community in the mountains in Idaho. There are a number of year round residents here, with many, many vacation homes in the area. On the weekends the back Forest Service roads and logging roads are packed with ATV's and campers. In the fall we have hunters and in...
I don't remember the exact number of questions I had - partly because I was so nervous - but it was somewhere in the low to mid 80's. I thought for sure I had failed, but I PASSED!!!!!!!!!!!! This was on the 16th of June.
