Nic Mourer
I'm Nic. I'm a brand new paramedic, although I've worked as an EMT in a busy 911 system for about two years in the DFW area. I like to learn what I can from others, especially those that are more experienced than me (which is pretty much everyone I think). I'm married with three children (my wife and I had twins in Dec. of 2019).
Originally, I didn't want to be in EMS because my dad was a medic and my mom was an ER trauma nurse (so I shunned that lifestyle as a teenager), so instead I pursued education in classical music after high school. Turns out you can't really make a living at that without getting lucky and knowing the right people. After meeting my future wife a few years later, we agreed that I needed to pick a career path to start on so that I could support our family if we were to get married. Turns out we did get married and I ended up getting my EMT. And.. turns out I really like EMS (aside from the long hours and less-than-amazing pay). It's the problem-solving aspect of it and the skills it's helped me develop with people that are my favorite parts of the job. I ended up just finishing paramedic school and plan on doing that for a while before pursuing a career in nursing (seems to be the smart play with what I've got going on family-wise), but I'm still considering other options, healthcare-related or not.
Oh, and another important fact about me... I don't always talk like it, but I am a Christian. Baptist, specifically. So, those values tend to keep me grounded on the more optimistic soil instead of the cynical kind. Don't get offended if I mention my faith - I am just speaking from the heart at that point and mean nothing offensive to others. I try to be courteous and kind to those I speak with.
