I have to say that I'm kinda glad that I live in PA, where it's really simple to get a CCW permit. I wouldn't mind it being a little harder, but it's damn near impossible for some of you guys to get permits in other states.
Been a member for a while here, but haven't really posted much. Figured I'd introduce myself. I'm an EMT-B for the last 5 years in a volunteer agency. I also work full time as a 911 dispatcher. Looking forward to being active and getting to know some people.
Accident with Entrapment. Got to land the helicopter and all. 5 patients in total I think. Was quite exciting for a 17 year old kid. Five years later, I'd rather take a non-emergency sick person than go on an entrapment call. Way more fun being able to converse with my patients about their lives...
Formerly, I would have believed that a Kia couldn't possibly do over 100. That was until a friend of mine took me for a 114 mph ride in his Kia Optima. :)
A few years back we had an issue with almost all the hospitals going to divert. Caused a big fuss and more or less, they are now no longer allowed to go on divert. Our county will sometimes advise us if a particular hospital has lots of patients inbound and we can adjust our transport decision...
MICU is dispatched to respond to a neighboring county, has an extended ETA (20-25 minutes).
Dispatch to MICU X-X: "Per Z County, you are going to have a 30 y/o female with mutiple seziures. I suggested that they dispatch their FD for a med assist, but I don't think they took the advice."
We don't have a written policy on staging. The state police who cover our territory general advise us to stage if they are enroute, but ultimately the decision is in our hands based on how we feel from information provided by dispatch. I generally stage for all suicide attempts where the patient...
