The way it works in our area is all hospital based ALS services and then BLS is used for transport. Most towns are still all volunteers. We would be the second in our county to go to a mixed model. We have paid firefighters during the day that run ALS calls with us.

ALS is done by the surrounding hospitals. BLS transfer patient for ALS. However, a few of our members are also paramedics and if we went paid we may run a ALS rig during the day.

Yes, we have a strong group of EMTs ages 16 to 18. They cannot volunteer during the day because they have school. So we have about 6 people on duty in the building each night.

Sarah, I believe if you are an EMT-B you get three months off of AIT while everyone is learning the basics and then you go back for the rest of AIT. You would just have a larger break in between basic and AIT. Not sure how being a paramedic would factor into that. My best advice would be talk...
