When I started, I didn't have a choice...so I went to a private. I would choose, given the option, big city, with a 911 FD/EMS blend. I'm assuming they'd get "better" (read: more interesting) calls. Right now, I'm a Medicare-sponsored taxi for old people.
Eh...I'd challenge that. Not everyone is cut out for NREMT-style tests, I damn near needed a therapist after taking it. He could be ace-ing the course and normal tests, but the NR is designed to make you start drinking.
OP - A quick call to the NREMT/your OEMS should clear this right up.
Lucky the FCC wasn't listening...I'm told that's a big no-no.
Sorta reminds of when Dispatch was giving us a extremely complicated address, and the radio kept messing up the transmission...after the third 10-5 (repeat last) from us, she said "Jesus Christ, just call the base. I'm not reading...
I would like to make a small, but (I think) important point: when I was doing my ride-along, the BLS driver had been riding with ALS so long, he actually started believing he was better than other BLS...so much so, he started forgetting to handle his BLS responsibilities and rather focused on...
Our system recently making the change, after realizing that almost every call can be handled by a P/B combo...naturally, the medics got ticked off, but the company runs on money, not joy. I personally don't mind it, I think the combo is often better...
I will always attempt to chat with a patient (given they're not raging EDPs, out for blood). My rule is, I try once. If a conversation develops, I'll talk all the way to the ER. If they're not interested, I just do my best to get them as comfortable as possible, and politely keep my mouth shut...
I was told OB/GYN would be heavily emphasized as well, but my test was just all over the place...It never really focused on anything. Keeping Murphy's Law in mind, whatever you study will be completely excluded. Just remember...the test wants you to fail. It's going to ask you the stupidest...
I realize I'm a few days late to the party, but hey, forums are all about people supplying their opinion when it was clearly not asked for (:D)
Unfortunately, being born on Planet Earth does not grant you any rights. You're not guaranteed food, strength, talents, or really anything. To quote...
NY is as rude as they are on the subway, with the added bonus of not being able to get a hold of them originally. Emails, followed by phone calls, and then some more emails...I became enough of a pain, they just gave me whatever I wanted. I could've gotten the woman's car if I wanted.
I would say I need a bit more context...as stated above, was the pt strapped t a board? If yes, then I agree, its' tricky. If not, try to have the pt maneuver to a better position and stick to the NRB.
I have yet to interact with a OEMS that was even half interested in helping me...but then again, that was in NY, and they're notoriously rude. I'm an emailer...I send emails to everyone related to the office, so when the OEMS tell me my information is wrong, I can show them that their employee...
