I haven't see any reports of what killed Officer Camilleri in the passenger seat of their Explorer and left his partner in the driver's seat with minor injuries. Has anybody seen any reports of what made his injuries fatal? Getting rear-ended by a car doing freeway speed is serious, but I'm not seeing what killed him. Thanks.

Very tragic incident in any case. His family will have very difficult memories associated with Christmas from now on. RIP officer Camilleri.

Do you really need to know what the injuries were? Is it going to make a difference or serve as any sort of learning experience?

Normally what made the injuries fatal in any TC are not released to the general public by the coroner and will probably only be stated during the trial of the intoxicated driver for hopefully as much as they can possibly charge them with.

This. Does it really matter in the grand scheme of things? No. You can only speculate. My guess would be he was unrestrained, but I don't know nor do I really care. What I care about is some POS killed a husband and father of 3 on Christmas Eve.

Fair enough. I was just very surprised that he was killed. The reports were that he was belted into the front seat just like the driver CHP officer that did not get seriously injured. If there is some unrestrained piece of equipment that intruded forward into the passenger seat, or some other similar issue that could affect other people who get rear-ended, it would be good to know about it to be sure to do what we can to our vehicles to avoid that same risk. Hopefully the internal AAR from the CHP investigation will make such recommendations for whatever they find (although as you say, the results of that may not be made public).

Stay safe.
