I have my scope of practice in LA county but want to get accredited in Orange County. I've seen a couple classes on it but it has EKG and IV set up and monitoring included. Can anyone tell me if this right and what the process is to get the expanded scope of practice in Orange County? Thank you.

Same thing as LA County. Pay to sit through OC's 4 hour "Expanded Scope" course or whatever they call it. Then apply through OCEMS and pay them their fee and voila.

Do they have the IV Set up and EKG? These are new to me.

Spike a bag and put stickers on according to the labels. Right arm, left arm, right leg, leg leg, or the corresponding parts of the torso; and a 12-lead ECG. Not exactly rocket science.

Lol, seriously? Why is IV setup "expanded scope"? Gawd, it would be so much more ideal if the OC (like LA) was not controlled by hose-slinging pretend-medics.

wait you need to pay to take a course to be able to spike a bag? and get certified to put some stickers on? we call that "stuff you cover in EMT class under assisting ALS" or "stuff you learn day 1 when you are on the ambulance."

This is the same place that has outlawed private paramedics so that only the FD can respond to 911 calls.

Well, I don't necessarily disagree that with that concept (because I think you should have standards, and I have seen too many for profit companies that barely followed the minimum standards, especially when it came to education and equipment), I don't think it's even relevant.

Now if they required each private ambulance to pay $200 to the county for every 911 call they ran.......

In some places, aren't private 911 services contracted by municipalities actually paying the city for the privilege?

Didn't know that - but makes sense!
My favorite is when patients complain to LACo FD about their bill, and the FF says "oh we don't bill you, our services are free, you need to call the ambulance company."

Umm. Excuse me. Free? Taxes aside, you DO bill the patient. Where do you think the ALS assessment fee came from? The BLS Ambulance?

They bill the Ambulance company for every ALS call and the Ambulance company has to try to recover those fees from the patient.
