I don't even know if i'm necessarily allowed to do this, but here we go :).

I belong to a Law enforcement forum and they do verification of credentials. For example, i sent in a picture of my ID card at work (Personal Address blotted out) and they verified me as a NYS Parole officer. Maybe we can even get a pretty little sticker next to your user saying you are verified? I am wondering if people on Emtlife would want/be opposed to that? If so why?

THIS IS STRICTLY AN INTEREST THREAD, SIMPLY TRYING TO SPARK A NEW IDEA.

Nope.

Cause over the years we have had a LOT of non-EMS folk contribute valuable discussion topics, people who sought help and got it and then stayed or moved on, and writers, and general curious folk.

Have we had posers? Absolutely!! We usually run them off quick cause it is not hard to call one out.

And rereading your post....I see now it is simply a sticker which would state you are verified, so maybe your input or advice may be taken with more credibility as opposed to someone who is non-verified.

A pre-screen does not rule out all those I wrote about in first post..I get it now.

Hmmm, I may have changed my viewpoint!

I'm not saying use it to get into the forum, everybody else can still post and what not.. It's just maybe the newer folks now have somebody they "know they can trust" or something along those lines. Maybe not even that they can trust... maybe just somebody they KNOW has credentials of some kind.

You can trust, I am a certified and credentialed schmuck, but I got your back, bro.

Sounds interesting, lets see what the mods think??...

I'd love to see a "credentialed" sticker to verify levels of experience, education, etc.
Figure1 does this, and it is awfully helpful as a new user.

I vote unnecessary effort and little gain. There are a ton of people running around with certs who I wouldn't listen to.

I was initially against it along the lines of Summit's reasoning, but I think it would be a nice feature to have in the end. While verification won't fix the problems introduced by lack of common sense/competency/education, we can at least help out with the latter. Online discussion is generally bettered when those involved are willing to shed the protection of anonymity.

Are our administrators/community leaders able and willing to handle the extra paperwork though?

Could be just an additional line in the [post]registration, for E- or P- number. Should be simple enough, phpBB is quite flexible.

I thought we were talking about adopting picture verification of certs/work IDs like nysems mentioned?

It still has to be based off of something. I personally, am a paranoid ****head who doesn't do social media or any other identifiable stuff; for instance, if you try to whitepage me, you'll come up with nearly nothing, because I try leave little to no digital footprint. But for the purpose of verification, I'm willing to submit my E-#. If the brass can find a way to cross reference it with, say, existing NREMT database, then it should work.

@Flying- I'm not even sure there will be "extra paperwork". I was thinking more of "scan your ID/Card on a green piece of paper with a spoon to the left of it" so that way people cant google id's ect. Just send that even via PM to a Mod on the forum. You can even blot out your name if you so please, but the ID card would still have a number, and FOIA will not be able to get it, since you will not be a "consenting individual".

I feel that all bases would be covered, nobody would see your EMT/Paramedic number aside from the moderators... also it's not like you wont be able to post if your not verified. Just something to try and help new members, and even some "newer" folks like myself..

Coming up on my first renewal next October. And I have enough hours to keep it up
Cool beans, I can't tell you how happy I am I knocked 95% of them in one shot. It sounds like you're well ahead of the curve as well.

You are still talking about making a mod review an image for each cert for each user and then go into their profile and click to enable certain icon badges. So that would be a burden if everyone did it.

I suspect that this is an effort only some long term posters are going to bother with which robs the effort most of the little utility it promises.

I stick with the no vote.
