My service is looking at tablets to do reports in the back of the bus. I was wondering if anyone had any experience with the different types of tablets and doing reports with them.

Requirements:

-Windows 8
-able to be attached to a keyboard

If anyone has any feedback regarding any of these tablets please let me know.

Thanks!

I had them, and I prefer using a computer back at the station.

That being said, some people in our service loved them. The keyboard is crucial, as is having PCR software that is touchscreen friendly. Also helpful is a case that allows it to stand up on its own, so you can place on the counter or bench seat and have your hands free for the keyboard or for the patient.
I find they work best for BLS transports, since you can get most of your PCR done in the back of the unit during transport.

Are you asking about hardware or software?

Hardware is what I'm looking at here. I'm looking around for my captain. She has no specific hardware requirements for the tablet, as long as its reliable and has the things that I mentioned above. I'm looking for things people either enjoyed using or really hated as there are so many with the windows platform.

I'd say Panasonic Toughbooks are the way to go. The most important feature is that it's rugged and has a keyboard.

I thought we were back on rectal aspirin again.

Amateur radio buffs I met like Panasonic Toughbooks, especially the early Nineties' vintage, and the epitome is the US DoD version used in DESERT STORM. Guys will buy up lots of three or four for parts and just because. And to barter.

Disregard

My oldest daughter uses her tablet on the bus on the way to school.

If we got to use tablets. I wouod be quite interested but for now gotta pull thriugh with the Tbooks. And they are not as rugged as advertised though

FWIW, I know you're after windows-compatible, but there are some new PCR systems available for the iPad. They iPads are only about $600/ea., you can get otterbox cases for them that are very rugged, they're very user friendly, and there are a ton of external keyboard and docking options. There's a paramedic program in my area that includes an iPad for every medic student for charting.

We have them for the Engines and our squad and they work very well! I think my captain is only looking at windows 8 platforms for some reason... I would much rather have iPads but I'm not in charge lol.
