I want to purchase a nice 5.11 jacket for when it gets cold, probably the Signature Duty Jacket.

I also want to put patches on the shoulders. However, I work for multiple agencies, so if I put my state patch on the right, what should I put on the left? I want to wear this at all my agencies so I can't put an agency patch. Is there a different sort of patch I could put, like an NREMT patch or something?

Does anyone else have a jacket like I'm describing?

I don't have the same jacket, but a friend of mine works for 2 different agencies, actually had Velcro attached to the patches and jacket, When he's at one agency he can apply those patches, when hes at another agency he can apply those patches. its quick and easy.
 
that's a pretty pricey jacket.

I'd look for a reversible jacket, one that is ANSI approved (with the appropriate reflective striping and yellow color), and the other side is a darker color

Sew on the state paramedic patch (or use velcro is you work in multiple states) on the inside and outside (it is reverable), and just use velcro for the agency patch. but make sure your jacket will meet your agency's uniform policy, and they will permit you to wear it at work.

We have globe extrication jackets. They're like 600+ dollars a pop, before all the agency specific stuff. Luckily they're issued rather than us buying them. I'd take 200$ over that any day of the week. We're transitioning to the 5.11 half neon yellow jacket, I'm not a huge fan compared to the ones we currently have.

To answer the OPs question, Velcro. You can see your state patch on then do Velcro on the other so you can swap out agency patches as needed.

Your 5.11 neon yellow jackets will replace your Globe extrication? We're carrying both since the 5.11 isn't considered protective enough if we're inside the action circle. On the other hand, our Globe jackets aren't reflective enough for accident scenes, so we have to wear a traffic vest over them too.

That's the exact same problem we have.

Currently unless you have an old globe jacket you will not be given one, only the 5.11. It's bad but it's going to take someone getting hurt due to improper PPE for them to figure it out. They've said we were to be issued gloves now for a while, haven't seen those yet. In all reality the lack of extrication pants kinda negates the purpose anyways.
 
We're issued extrication pants. I've never seen anyone wear them. Ever.

At least our torsos won't be totally charred beyond belief... ;)

We're only issued an ANSI coat (a sweet gortex Blaurer). If we need extrication gear we get it from a firefighter. We don't have the money to issue everyone jackets much less pants and there's too much size variation for it to just stay on the ambulance. I'm 6'2 175 and my partner is 6' 430. We can't wear the same stuff.
 
FFS 430lbs! Hate to sit in the seat after him!

I'm hoping it's a typo...... Lmao. Maybe 340, though that's not much better.
 
Not a typo. That's a guestimate really, he says 415 on a good day. I'm not sure what that means, but I don't think there's many good days.

Great guy but makes moving patients or getting around in the back of the truck a challenge. The supe and I have an agreement that any call that sounds like a carryout will get an extra ambulance...

Perhaps an American Flag opposite the State (or Registry) patch?

Next time I have to buy a Job Shirt, that's what I'm doing. I've got a couple from old agencies that I can't wear anymore.

Exactly what I did, I have a "generic Job shirt" has the PA DOH patch on the front left breast and my name on the right.

Our company has a policy that prohibits you from purchasing your own job shirts and clothing with their logo or name on it. They will provide it to you this way when you leave it becomes their property. They started this because apparently someone who left the company prior had allowed their old uniform shirts to end up in the hands of laypersons who had no affiliation with our company wearing them to accident scenes and fires to be close up rubber neckers..

At what point do you draw the line? Having to use both ambulances for a call that should be handled by one is pretty bad.

I am not sure. It's something I am struggling with, along with the supe. Even getting patients out of a house is hard since he doesn't fit well through some doorways with his hands out carrying someone. So far I've always had strong enough volunteer fire guys, but one of these days that's not going to happen.

We're getting a new ambulance with no bench seat and a swiveling chair on the curbside. If he doesn't fit in that (seatbelted), I think that's where the line will be drawn.

And of on topic note: Blauer makes jackets large enough for him, which means there are others out there. Which is scary.

There is the probably apocryphal story I've heard about one of the services around here that a employee left the company under a cloud, then went out and found a bunch of homeless guys and said "I'll give you 20 bucks and a shirt if you promise to wear the shirt" Then handed them his uniform shirts.

To answer the OP, I personally just wear my (textile) motorcycle jacket which is (coincidentally) in my company's primary color that I put a PARAMEDIC back patch on, one of these days I intend to sew on one of the state medic patches to the shoulder, but honestly, I probably won't.

It's highly reflective (without being safety yellow), warmer than all get out (with all three layers, I can strip out the insulation and just have the reflective and the wind/water proofing, or all the way down to just the visibility stuff on the mesh layer and still be relatively cool), and, as an added bonus, has some armor in the outer layer.
