Hello everyone, I am currently taking emt-b courses at christ hospital. (Oak Lawn, Illinois). Along with that I am a full time community college student. Once I finish up this course I plan to go through Christ's medic program. This is something I am very passionate about and would find satisfying as a career. After getting my paramedics license I plan to get on the list for a cfd medic and in the mean time work a suburban company. My question is, should I continue working towards my associates degree in an unrelated field, or focus on and put all my time energy and money into medic school? Thanks for any insight or opinions.

If it helps your decision at all, I have an associates degree, and bachelors degrees in fields unrelated to EMS. Within the next year, I am hoping to begin paramedic school. I am a firm believer in continuing my education.

I did my medic program at a community college so I could get college credit for it. Very glad I went this route. They offer an AS degree in "paramedic technology" or something like that. Definitely get a degree of some sort, IMO.

Very true, more education can never hurt. Thanks. Btw codebru1984 love that quote by henry thoreau

If you plan to use your associates degree for that other field, you should keep doing that. If you plan on working as a medic for a long time, you should do your associates degree in EMS. You'll have it done by the time you finish paramedic school, and it will help you get a job.
