Hey all,

In OC, it seems like Care is undisputed most reputable company without any competition. When I was taking the EMT course, the instructor would always talk about Care this Care that, it's extremely competitive to get hired at Care, blah blah. They're one of only companies that provide 911 calls as well as Doctor's and Pacific.

Now my question is, including LA County, what ambulance companies are most reputable? And what ambulance companies provide 911 calls in LA County?

Thanks!

Check the sticky Southern California EMS post at the top of the EMS Employment sub forum.

But in LA County, 911 ambulance companies are AMR, Schaefer, Care, McCormick, Gerber, and AmeriCare. But most of the county the local Fire Department provides transport.

Thank you. I swear I always search the forum to make sure the subject hasn't been discussed haha.
I was just curious where Care ranks within the LA County.

I found a map that shows the EOAs for LA County

http://ems.dhs.lacounty.gov/GIS/Maps/Ambulance061907a.pdf
(Note all the white areas transport is local FD, only exceptions are Santa Monica (AmeriCare, ~5-7 units at any one time) and Torrance (Gerber, ~16 units at any one time))

As far as how Care ranks? They're supposed to be one of the better ones for sure

Thanks for that find. I'm guessing the companies on the map are the good ones.. as in established, respected and reputable in LA County.

CARE and McCormick are great companies. There are others but those are the two that come to mind for me.

Unfortunately it's damn near impossible to get an interview at McCormick if you're an EMT and don't know anybody who already works there.

Although I hear its different for Paramedics, they can get an interview, as long as you got the gold patch lol

As far as getting into a 911 company (IN LA COUNTY) AMR,CARE, or McCormick is the way to go. Iv'e heard torrance fire hates gerber and Americare is close to losing their coverage area, but don't quote me on that. Also heard that both are not ableto make pt contact until fire is on scene, AGAIN dont quote me on that. if anyone has more info on that i would like to know.

All in all if you want to go 911, AMR,CARE, McCormick. or those few FD that have their own BLS.
