In CA, does Ambulance driver's certificate and license mean the same thing?

Just took the DMV test for my ambulance driver's certificate. Pass, and have a temporary one now.

Is this the actual license, or is it just a certificate? Do I need to do anything new for a license?

And can I use this temporary one when applying for a job?

It's just a certificate. There is no ambulance license just the certificate. Yes you can apply with the temp one (the pink one). The actual certificate can take 30-180 days to get mailed to you. The actual cert looks exactly like the pink one but its white.

I believe it is an endoresment to your DL. So if you lose your DL you lose your ADL.

Thank you. And thank you to the poster above as well

California DMV classifies it as a Ambulance Driver Certificate, for which you are required to be at least 18 years old and hold a valid California driver license that is not on departmental probation.
Here's a link for clarification: http://apps.dmv.ca.gov/dl/ambu_drvr_cert.htm
Temporary Ambulance Driver Certificates are acceptable for use and recognized just like the white colored Certificate.
Congratulations on passing!

Anybody else hate carrying that thin little piece of paper around? They really need to just make it an endorsement on our actual licenses...

The white paper, is the paper they have you fill out at the DMV office. For whatever reason, they send it to Sacramento to get approved before getting it.

I have a passport sleeve and keep it in a satchel.

I taped my EMT card, NREMT, Medical green card, ambulance cert, and CPR card all together and have them in my wallet or work backpack.

But that would make sense, aren't we talking about the DMV?

I don't care for it being a thin piece of paper, BUT wonder how much the fee would jump up if it turned into a plastic card.
