Hi everybody,

I am new to New York and wish to serve as an EMT.
I have searched the internet in search of information and now i am a little confused :

How does one go from 0 medical training to NYC EMT ?

I found out that you need a civil service title of EMS-Emergency Medical Technician. Is this the another term for the EMT certificate and CFR EMT ? Or are those 3 different necessary things ?
How do i get training for the civil service exam ?
Is this the first step or did i miss something ?

I have been on the FDNY website saying i need the civil exam and then says to apply with "EMT or Paramedic certification number", I am sure there are steps between the two but i can't seem to find out which.

Could someone point me in the right direction please,
Thank you

You can try some of the many colleges that offer the class. Most of the community colleges should offer it or you could go through a volunteer agency. Laguardia Community College and St. John's offer the course as well as a couple different companies.

Those are all just an EMT basic. Enroll in an EMT class at any community college and they'll get you sorted out.
