Hi, I'm about 3/4 of the way through my emt b cert and im thinking about getting my cna/ phlebotomy cert so I can be a patient care tech. Does anyone have any experience/ suggestions with this?

I don't have any direct experience in that I am only an EMT, not a PCT. In my basic class, there were 4 girls who were PCT's and hated their job so they decided to go to EMT school. It probably just depends on what your personal preference is- being in a hospital/nursing home/building all day vs. being on an ambulance.

thanks! do you know who is able to do more in a hospital setting? i know emts and pcts can both volunteer in the ER, but who is able to do more? would it be useless to get a pct cert bc most of the skills (besides drawing blood) are already covered in the emt class?

Don't waste the money on any pct class. The hospital I go to for my medic clinicals put emt's and pct's on the same level. The pct's can't start lines or draw blood. It's just BLS care for the most part. A couple other hospitals I've been to allow their pct's to start lines and draw blood. Those pct's are emt's usually that have received special training from the hospital they work in. So it'd be pointless to go and pay for a pct program when your hospital will put you through their training. Hope this helps!
