There is a button at the top of the machine that you can press, if I remember correctly.

Yep. Power, pause, resume, continuous, and 30:2 buttons.

Yes. We work hard to keep our rhythm check/shock pauses very short, less than five seconds. QI is a stickler for that. Pre charging, rhythm check, shock, restart the Lucas. Occasionally, we'll (maybe overzealously) restart the Lucas before the LP delivers the shock.
